I much prefer story. I feel like im playing as the main characters in the book if the story is amazing. If the story was great, I would play 8-bit. I understand people who would rather have graphics though, it is cool have the characters look real.

story is every thing would you rate a super good looking version of pong 100% or a pong looking ff8 100%

I agree. I'd much rather have a good story. But then, some times to make better stories, better graphics are needed. I cant imagine a really good, absorbing story based on a coloured blob.

I would say a mixture of both. Without good graphics, the game would feel like an 8-bit game and without a story, you won't get a satisfied feeling of beating the game.

Do you want a game that looks good or do you want a game the plays good? Function over flash.

both, most definitely. without good graphics, you wont be attracted enough to sit through the game even if the story is good. and if graphics are good with bad story... *falls asleep*

I am a gamer from back in the days of atari, and i am sick and tired of people who feel that graphics have any importance what-so-ever. Yes i can understand that good graphics are nice to have. but in essence, if the game is easy to play regardless of the graphics and it has a wonderful story. Now i don't mean "easy" as in the game difficulty, i am saying it as in how friendly it is to the player. Is it smooth, are the controls difficult, you know, things like that. Honestly, the best games i've ever played are back from the days of super nintendo. The rpgs back then had a great storyline that truly brought in the player. The graphics were nothing like ours today. Honestly, if i had a choice, i'd want games with 8-16 bit graphics and an amazing storyline more than i could ever desire a game that's just graphics. So in essence, the story is the most important piece; graphics come second.

For RPG,the story is the most important,do you care playing pokemon in GBA,not right, you have fun with the game. But exception to the world class game like GTA,story and graphic are both important because that will make the game cool.

it's simple better graphic = better story

I disagree with thatGood graphics + Bad story= Failure that you like to look atBad graphics + Great story = Great gameGood graphics + Great story = Epic gameIMO story is better, but graphics is less important

Story is far more important. If it's engaging, I don't really care how it looks.

The only RPG I've ever really bought based on graphics alone was Odin Sphere.Really I don't know why this is a debate in the category of RPGs. If anything, it should be "Gameplay vs. Story", as there are plenty of RPGs with awesome gameplay but bland, cookie-cutter stories (Grandia, Kingdom Hearts, Suikoden), but not that many with a story that totally eclipses poor gameplay.

Story comes first. Even the graphic is bad, but with a solid storyline...it's just make a good game

I'd say a good mixture of graphics, story and gameplay will stick me to a game for some time... or rather years. I tend to come back to Morrowind every now and then despite it's age as the story is pretty nice and it has a decent gameplay.

Story is always better if you have a good story line you can have a good time but if you only have graphics but the story line sucks i'd just put down the controller and stop playing all together.

I love the story of some games. If there are bad graphics I also won't buy it.A mixture of the 2 is needed for a great game.

Definitely story for me. :) No arguments there! As well as the gameplay and stuff, the story needs to be interesting and captivating. However, graphics does need to be a bit decent at leastI mean, I don't need FFXII type graphics. Even just 2D GBA type graphics like FFI, Onimusha Tactics, Castlevanias etc. is perfect. But if graphics are fuzzy and if things look weird, I can get put off just looking at the game.

If so many people agree that story is important, why the hell is CoD:MW2 a best seller?

Graphics are great and so are stories but a true gamer would not limit themselves to only playing something that looks good. I play old school games al the time and i love them because of the the story and gameplay. I dont go out and buy a game because its hi-def and has 5.1 surround but it does make it easy on the eyes. The best games obviously have both of these elements and will always be around even a 100 now. My children telling their children, telling thier children about how the xbox had been passed down and all the games they used to play with their friends, ect. Bottom line is that games shound be enjoyed for their value as a stimulus. Some people wont play old games because they are as not visually stimulating and others wont play if the story sucks but if you cant enjoy yourself it doesnt matter.

Well for shooting killing and Racing I like to have good graphics but in an RPG i could play it at lowest resolution and quality if its story is good.In racing I love having good physics and in simulation I need accurate simulation. What i love the most about games is how 'free' they are.I mean how much variation there is in the way you can do things.I loved AC because I could jump on any building and kill anyone anyway i desired.I also loved GTA SA because I could find loads of different strategies to get past hard missions.I think that a game can be popular with primitive graphics and story if it is Awsomely Multiplayer.Ie MMORPGs or counterstrike.Sports games need accurate simulation and good graphics. And in games like PES building a team all by yourself from the bottom division on is the best.
