Story by far, with gameplay a close second. Graphics barely matter, 'cause I'm used to playing MUDs.

I prefer gameplay over both of them. Like Wii sports has no story and bad graphics but it owns so much.

Story is way, WAY more important. Gameplay is more important that graphics, too. Graphics are sort of like sprinkles on a really good cupcake. Nice if they are there, but you don't really notice if they aren't.

Story, I am not a fan of rpgs, but adventure games are my obsecion, and usually i love to play those old lucas arts games, mostly cause the amasing script (LOL SO DAMN FUNNY) , and they have a really nice art direction (wich is better that "amazing" Graphics cough* Secret Files Tunguska* cough, also i really enjoy when the story feels like u are reading a book like in the first Broken Sword, or Dreamfall (Dreamfall have my favorite video game story)

For a RPG, story is a must... but most stories are pretty cliche these days so I don't see much investment in that department any more.

Thats why u should play adventure games, if u want a good story or at least original check out Dreamfall, Bad Mojo (nice twist near the end), The Last Express (Mature stoyline dont play it if u dont know anithing about WW1), The Neverhood (a parodie to the bible O_O) and Broken Sword (Davinci Code-ish but the game came out before)Mostly all the rpgs, are about saving the world

story is the most important but graphics are important aswell, i dont think i could play a game that looked really horrible even if it had a great story

Honestly its story that makes an rpg what you play. with out it, you wont get much out of it. think like old school ff.

You need both, and more than anything else you need a decent battle system. As most rpgs story are increadibly simililar and trashy, they really doesn't mean much to me.

i usually have to look at both. I'm not into a game that has bad graphics, but if they are at least decent, it will interest me. However, I lean more into a story. I want to have a good story to play through. If the story is cheap and was just put together haphazardly, then I only play the game for the action, but I won't be as interested to play a while.

Most of my favorite games are rpgs from ps1 with ok graphics and amazing story lines. So for me it will always be story.

Story. Here's my logic:An RPG with no graphics and great story is still an RPG.An RPG with great graphics and no story is not an RPG.Tada!

Ideally, the story is the single most important aspect of a RPG. However, its best to have a mixture between story and graphics in order to catch people's attention. While I certainly wouldn't mind playing a game that looks like crap, as long as it plays well and has a good story, I would be as happy as a pig in mud. A lot of people, though, don't share this feeling.
