Considering that The Simpsons is a satirical comedy, I don't think young children should be watching it because they don't understand satire. They're too young to really comprehend what a parody is and thus not only will they miss the point of the show/humour, they can also misconstrue the information being relayed to them as proper behaviour. I don't necessarily think that watching The Simpsons at a young age will ruin you for life, but why take the chance.

I do, because most young kids don't know the difference from right from wrong.

as a kid that grew up watching the simpsons, and doing very well in college now, i have to say that watching the simpsons was not detrimental, i mean i have no proof that it isnt but is there any proof that says it is. i think its a great show and is probably one of the cartoons that both parents and children think is funny. its a family bonding time

The Simpsons always teaches you lessons that come with a comedic twist. It's a very appropriate show for children and adults. Isn't the rating for it like G or 8 anyway?

It's a sitcom, except it's animated. Its still a lot better option then alot of the bad cartoons that are on today.

I really don't see the problem in letting younger kids watch this show; I watched it in its early days when I was 5. I loved it back then, and I still love it now. Of course, I didn't understand some of the more adult humor at the time, but it was still very entertaining to watch. Go Simpsons!

Hm...who's to consider who or what is inappropriate for anyone? IF it was truely inappropriate for children, they'd block and censor alot of stuff. Just like what Adult Swim does to most Anime's.

Well, maybe... but children in what age? I think children about 12 years old can watch it, though it'd be better if his parents/brothers/sisters/ accompany him.

Dude, I know The Simpsons might be inappropriate for children but a few weeks ago, The Simpsons was banned on daytime TV in Venezuela because of its content (it is OK to show it in some countries such as the UK in the daytime).

I been watching The Simpsons since the day I was born, (ok, maybe not technically "watching") and there's nothing wrong with me. I'm a model citizen! The same thing goes for any other show or video game. Fiction doesn't make your kid an axe-murderer. If they do that, they were very likely wacked out in the first place.

I don't know what kind of argument you could give. It's going to be hard to prove the Simpsons are in fact good for their mental development. Obviously reading would be better for them, but you can't really expect them to read all day every day. I watch the Simpsons with my daughter, and she's one of the top kids in her class (she's 9 by the way.)

I agree with you 101% all the way.
