I was looking up rankings for Pokemon Red and Blue (on Game Boy) and found this certain review:

Ok, why oh why is every single darn Pokemon game exactly the same? Here's a scenario and run down of the game and it applies to every single one out there.1) Walk around and talk to people.2) Get some Pokemon.3) Have your Pokemon fight by scrolling thru some commands and pressing the button.4) Watch them flash until the bar goes away.5) Do the above over and over and over and over again.Boring. You played one Pokemon game, you played them all..

He's pretty much defining every kind of rpg that uses monsters. I wanna flame him, but u can't comment on reviews :PI guess I'll tear down his statements.

1) Walk around and talk to people.

What RPG does NOT have this? Yeah. None. (except the really crappy ones)

2) Get some Pokemon.

Pretty much done in every single rpg that needs a party. You need to recruit/catch/scout/persuade/seduce/etc. your team members. Or else you have a predefined team.

3) Have your Pokemon fight by scrolling thru some commands and pressing the button.

Ok, then what am I supposed to do to issue commands then? Voice controlled cursor?

4) Watch them flash until the bar goes away.

If there isn't a life bar, its damage. All battles should have something called "HP". It stands for "Hit points". Without it, the game would be a million times worse. And i guess animations are pretty bad in R/B/Y, but take into consideration the time period please.

5) Do the above over and over and over and over again.

So your looking for a what kind of game...? Minigames? They're different. And things called "dungeons" just make the game harder/worse/better (depending on ur look at it), and define it as an RPG.So these are just my thoughts. I reaaaalllly wanna flame that guy. LITERALLY. At a stake. Then serve his remains to his mom. If he has any. Maybe he has 2.
