Alright my friends have talked about the PS3 that is currently out only being a prototype since people are having problems with it such as it not playing PS1 and 2 games even with the disc and that is basically having the same launch problems the 360 had i are these rumors true or are my friends messing with me?

Your friends are messing with you. If it was a prototype, it wouldn't have been released to the public.

Even though Sony tends to screw people over and can be could hearted towards people, I highly doubt they would do something like that....so, your friends are either messing with you, or really confused.

It is true, however, that some games arent backwards compatable just yet but they will work that out soon. As for that being aprototype, thats dead wrong

yeah, I mean everything is buggy at first especailly anything to deal with computers and programming thus the beauty of patches. But Sony wouldn't mass produce a prototype, to many would mess up and it would end up costing them more money then anything

all the earlier models have bugs, thats a disadvantage of getting something when it first comes out since its the first model and they need a little time to see what works and what needs to be added to the system.

I kinda think that the first shipment is like a huge test. Sony ran all the tests and tried to fix all of the bugs but the initial launch is the true test. With so many people buying first ps3's to come out all of the defects should be picked up by the public and fixed for future shipments.

They released the PS3 now with some bugs. The money they made by selling those will be used to fix those bugs and the next shipment will come out on April or so. Thats when it is official.

I'm glad that's not true, because I was disappointed when I heard the 360 couldn't run old Xbox games. I'd be pissed if the PS3 couldn't play PS2 games.

A prototype is a design that hasn't been finalized yet and has not gone into production. The fact that PS3's are obviously being mass produced, although not enough to meet demand, shows that it is not a protoype. It might be a rushed piece of hardware that is buggy and doesn't have a complete feature set, but it's not a prototype.

The PS3 that's being released to the public is not a prototype. A prototype in the exact words is the original model of something (i.e. the old PS3 boomerang controller). The reason people are having these problems with the consoles is because consoles ALWAYS have problems in the first few months. The non-slim PS2s went through 11 versions after it was released.

Anything will have problems at first, it just depends on how many problems occur, and how fast people notice them. I'm sure if you said you had a problem with your PS3 not being backwards compatible, you could get a new one, and there would be no worries. In any case, I'd be pissed if it happened to me, so I can understand why itd be awful. In any case this PS3 release is not a prototype, and bugs are just errors that got missed.
