I play video games as a form of escapism, and the idea of building yourself from scratch, as with D&D RPGs, really does appeal to me.

What RPG's lack in the battle system, they make up in story-line and their human like characters.

Only their Human Like Characters? What about every other type of major character or non-humanoid protagonist?

I love RPGs :D, most RPGs I played have awesome character & monster designs(Like the Final Fantasy series characters and monsters), some have great story lines, and you can explore where ever you want at anytime, run to a place, level, get new items to enhance your character's abilities, etc. FF ftw :D

The reasons why I play/love/am addicted to RPGs is because, I am fascinated with the fact of leveling up and getting stronger, especially the equipment wherein you get to explore and find out about more items, weapons and armors... the thought that you could actually cast magic and summon monsters, the thought that you are a character in that game, who holds powers and abilities no one else could have, it's just so exciting, especially the level up part... if only the maximum level for RPGs were much higher than just 99, 100, or even 9999 (In Disgaea)... RPGs are awesome, I love them, especially FF, which got me interested in this whole RPG madness... there's good story, exciting timeline, and long adventure... I just totally love it, just love it...The reasons why I play/love/am addicted to RPGs is because, I am fascinated with the fact of leveling up and getting stronger, especially the equipment wherein you get to explore and find out about more items, weapons and armors... the thought that you could actually cast magic and summon monsters, the thought that you are a character in that game, who holds powers and abilities no one else could have, it's just so exciting, especially the level up part... if only the maximum level for RPGs were much higher than just 99, 100, or even 9999 (In Disgaea)... games like fire emblem and stuff are good. most online games are rpgs. all i have to say is they freakin rock! they are fun and it is neat to get stronger than playing based on just skill alone and never get stronger. sorta like legend of zelda i just described only gaining more life is close to an rpg. reply if zelda is an rpg lol

Story is usually the big thing with me in all video gams but RPG's open up a world of character development outside of you linear path of just following one hero.Replay is a big factor as well, as RPG's have always offered a higher customization quality or quantity for your characters, usually there is ton's of stuff you miss when you play through the first time as well. So a good story driven RPG with tons of extras to find the second or third time through is my kinda game.

i like rpgs because they test my brain. they are never easy to beat. other genres of games require a lot less thought.

I play rpgs for the same reason I watch most anime. I love interesting stories, I really enjoy the emotions that rpgs evoke because of how long you spend watching and bonding with the characters. Also sweet costumes and neat looking characters draw me in. Sometimes I like sitting back and just completely immersing myself in leveling up until i can't stand sitting around anymore.

They are linear and easy to follow unless its split into episodes.but I like them because its interactive in the fact that you can put yourself as the main character, that feeling of empathy pretty much. Also the plots draw me in as well, if you're going to have a generic plot with an interesting and inciting twist, it makes the game better overall!

the story and the character development. it doesn't matter to me how the battles play out so long as the story grips me to the very end

i play video games solely for the story. unfortunately for most rpgs, that kinda kills the replay value.

I say people like RPGs because they want adventure fantasy games like Tales of Symphonia, or Kingdom Hearts.

i play rpgs because most of them have a nice story. i also love the characters, see how they were designed, those beautiful yet unrealistic suites (where in the world does a "skirt" like yuna wears on ffx-2 exist) and the way they evolve. another of the things i like are also the soundtracks, which can also be very interesting. i began playing psx with medievil and ff8 and i think that the first games people ever play are the that dictate their gaming taste so for me rpgs are definetly on the top
