It's the accomplishment of finishing a game that needs time and patience. It's also something about pride that you take in knowing you have finished this really long and hard game unlike so many other genre which can be finished in just three days to two weeks.

Because most RPGs are easy and abusable. You can get to a really high level and you have infinite time to do it.

Working on Knights in the Nightmare. Going to get around to Rondo of Swords. Hoping to find inspiration for Etrian.

mmm, there's no special reason for it, I think some people just like being bored out of their mind and normal human beings just don't XDhah, but, they do have their merits, the leveling system used in most RPGs really gives a sense of accomplishment, while in most games you don't see any solid proof that you're better than anyone, you just...get better...meh

For traditional (console-style) RPGs....I know that have of the western world is fed up with the status of old-school RPGs, you know, with the random battles, slow gameplay and often-cliched plots. But I think that people still like that because its a lot easer to connect with the game and the story with an RPG (since some of them basically just are vessels for stories) than you can with other games, like first person shooters. That's just me though. I'm always seeking out and playing games for their story and characters. I don't really have much of an option about other types of RPGs, like online, dungeon-crawlers, or some of the PC-Oblivion-style games, so I guess this post doesn't really universally count for RPGs in general.

RPGs give adventure and exploration like no other type of game can. Adventure/platform type games can offer the same thing, but not to anywhere near the same level...building characters, buying weapons and stuff, travelling, etc etc...Then there's always the crappo RPGs that give the genre a bad name, and then theres the great ones. Just depends on what game you're playing I guess.

I like RPGs for a simple reason... almost every RPGs I have played has been a long and full of characters game, with lot of elements and spins on it's story... so... tons of fun

You're probably talking about an older audience. They like rpgs so much because they used to be the only relevent genre. Some of them can't accept that now we get about one rpg worth a damn every year, so they laud every worthless, predictable japanese cash-in on the commercially safe males age 9-14 range.

Maybe people like RPGs so much because they do not like their own life... they give you a chance to live as someone else.

Why are RPG gamers so interested in RPG's. Is it because of the engrossing stories, the wonderful gameplay, or that we get to spend countless hours trying to beat it. So getting down to our original question what do you like about RPG's

I play games usually for the stories and RPGs often have the best plots among other game types.FF series are especially enjoyable imo

RPG's are just really fun. As one of you said earlier you get to travel a lot and get to use a whole variety of weaponsMost of the games I own either for real or on the computer are mainly RPG's like Summon Night 1 and 2 and Eragon
