For a number of reasons. I don't like straight fighting that much and I'm addicted to books. It's all about the story. To me, RPG's are interactive sci-fi or fantasy novels and I find that extremely attractive.

I like RPGs because they usually have lots of cool sidequests and a sweet story.I really prefer Real time over turn based.

well, the gameplay takes precedence over the storyline to me. i'm tired of rpg clones that dont add anything new to the mix.

Well...I like em because they're the first kind of videogame I've ever played...The first ever RPG I played was: "Super Mario RPG: And the Legend of the Seven Stars"....after that was Final Fantasy VII (I played that at age 5 <.< >.> >w<)

Instead of just watching anime'/cartoons, you get to be in the action. It's like a sudden release from harsh reality. You're transported in your fantasy world just the way you wanted it to be. (But why should it always be that protagonists are most of the time mute? Can anyone message me their theories??)
