Obviously there are only so many ideas that people can think of. Honestly though, i think that they still have a lot of good ideas left. Think about how many games youve played with a similar story but with a different gameplay.

I think that just like in Hollywood production costs are getting so high that it's becoming riskier and riskier to fund new ideas. Publishers are going to want ideas with a proven track record of profitability. I think that's one reason Nintendo has gone with lesser graphics on the DS and Wii. Keeping production costs lower allows them to continue trying new things like Nintendogs, Brain Age, etc.

Absolutely not. Atlas is obviously just getting started with such releases as Yggdra Union and Riviera, Level 5 continues to amaze with every release. Sure SquareEnix is getting a bit dry, FFXII was a major let down, but they're one of the causes for the current stagnation by showing you can release the same games over again and again. The DS I believe is responsible for the current trend in developers to think outside the box, games like Trace Memory show all the things you can do by manipulating the environment, and there's always Boktai which has been innovative from game 1.While major developers are seemingly afraid of expanding into new territory at the expense of not being able to milk franchises by selling hundreds of thousands of copies based on name alone (Sega, Squeenix, I'm looking at you), smaller developers hold my hope, as even though the cost of developing for the PS3 may be prohibitive, Microsoft has released a extremely cheap SDK for the 360, and the GBA/DS are great platforms to break into.I'd reprimand Capcom but I hardly think they're not being creative; they are, after all, making Gyukuean Saiban 4, and bringing as much of the beloved series (here known as Phoenix Wright) to the states as they can. <3

Thats a hard question because many companies are coming out with some lame and reatrded games. Howver many of the companies are just building upon their old famed games and making new series. Fr example, Metal gear solid, Zelda, Call of duty, etc. I really dont know but I say no.

I should say not.. There were many innovative ideas appearing in games in the past few years. But thses ideas need to market or sell well, they need to appeal to gamers. Sadly, these might be running a bit thin in the days to come. Some games released these days are just not even worth looking at..

I think the basic genres are pretty much set and we won't really see any new ones but I think companies will be making fresh fun games for many, many, years to come.

I don't think they are running out of ideas, I just think most of their new ideas are crappy.

I don't exactly see why the popular wii games are considered new and innovative. Last I checked I still own a fishing game for the sega genesis, and every wii sport type game has been done on the NES.

That is like saying that they are running out of ideas for fictional books! They will have enough ideas for a long time as far as the story of a game goes. Now if were talking about gameplay, then i'm not sure how long they'll hold out, however I am fine with all of the styles of gaemplay out today as long as they can keep pumping out new stories.

PPL Just Need Time to Think but Alot of Companies Seem to Be Going Down like Capcom. They also make games out of anime, and movies.

For gameplay, there's always room for dramatic changes. Gaming isn't that old yet. Sure, the next Sim City or Mech Warrior won't raise millions of eye brows but with things such as new controllers, there's plenty of room for innovation or even invention. As for stories, I'm pretty sure that if they hired a skilled writer, story qualities would improve tremendously. Especially if the writer was also a game designer. (At the very least, a mapper.) It's just that games can easily cost over 20 million dollars to produce and it's hard to determine whether a story will catch fire. That's one reason why Sega went down the drain: They had too much confidence in disgraceful stories. Then again, a story like Eragon that was so bad that no publishing company was willing to buy is now worth a fairly nice sum of money. All in all, idea's arn't exactly "running out." When it comes to games, gameplay and money comes before story, that's all.

They are running out of game ideas, there are a lot of game publishers and distributers, but since they have no more new things to make, new games are now getting rare.
