If you're abusing the Save State feature by using it in over and over hoping to get lucky on some parts for example: when looting items you abuse it over and over til u get the item u want, then it would be cheating, but if u only use it once in a while its not cheating

I agree there too, since I do it a lot to get what I want. It's all part of getting the better hand! Another way to cheat on the emulator!

Sometimes its a cheat and sometimes it isn't. On games where there is a way to save just a password to remember I dont consider it a cheat if you are tired or playing or have something else to do. If someone gets to a hard part in a game and they use savestate so they dont have to go back through everything to get there then its cheating.

The "save right where you are" thing is pretty cheap, it's true, but it's also really useful, something to do. Except in games where the whole point is not knowing what's around the corner, like Bioshock.

Since save states go against how a game is traditionally played, they do count as a cheat.

No, i don't think it's like or for cheating. Only if you are stuck i mean maybe then... But save is just for saving the game if you're in a rush to save.

No, I don't think of it as a "cheat," because:1. I'm playing against an inanimate computer; not a living, thinking opponent.2. I'm an adult who lives with purpose, responsibility and goals. Allowing a machine whose ostensible purpose is providing me with entertainment and enjoyment to dominate and structure my time is not an option.3. My enjoyment of computer/video games does not derive from the sport-like challenge they provide, but rather the stories they tell and the virtual worlds they offer for exploration. Thus, if my experience of a game's story and world is impeded by something so base and arbitrary as the inability to save when it is convenient for me to do so, I will gladly seek out and use any means available to supersede that impediment.

It all depends upon how often you use it and why. I know a friend who uses a save/load state about every three seconds, sometimes less. Usually holding down the turbo button too.

I wouldn't consider it cheating per se, however, it is a bit cheap. It's just taking advantage of what the emulator has to offer.Like superjumping in Halo 2, I suppose.

I wouldn't say a cheat... you could probably beat a boss faster without using save states because you don't have to constantly go back.

I think save state is cheat if you use it in the middle of a game just cause something is hard, but not cheat if you use it when you can save the game or if you have to use a password to restore your data.

The only time that I use a save state and not the regular saving system in a game is when I have to leave quickly. And even then I usually fight to find a way to save the regular way even though it'd be so convienent for me to just click on the options and use the save state. It keeps you in the game more I think.

tewchnically a cheat is an advantage somthing that helps in in a way so you are cheating lol

I don't consider it cheat if you use it to go back to a previous point in the case of an unintentional foul-up or just to save progress. I consider it cheat if:
 • You overuse the same save state at the same point (i.e. a Boss Fight in any RPG)
 • You're playing against a second player and save state after beating him/her (this happened to me while I was playing Street Fighter with a friend on my computer. I beat him cleanly, and he overwrote one of my save states to restart the fight and, later, to avoid restarting after he won)
 • You use someone else's save state to improve your progress in a game (i.e. getting a chip in MMBN you don't have from someone who has it in his/her save state)

Save state before you die - Load state after you die to come back.Hmmm, it depends on how you define cheating, like I hate how some games dont let you save often or at all, save state is good and even though they may not want you to save anytime it's good!

It depends on how you use it.If you're abusing the Save State feature by using it in the middle of a boss fight or something so that whenever you get hit or die, you reset to your last state to prevent that, then yeah, I would consider that cheating. However, if you use it sparingly and just save before boss fights or in places where it's a bit inconvenient to find a save point, or just need to quickly leave the game for some reason, then no, it's not really cheating.

It depends on how its used, of course saving during hard battles and constantly loading whenever something goes wrong - thats close to cheating. Besides, i feel such a playstyle really ruins the fun of a game. So i dont abuse it. I do regularly use it whenever given choices and the likes...I hate having to choose without knowing some consequenses beforehand and in some games that can really ruin things for you (like making a character you desperately wanted leave your party or not giving you a key-item) I also use it to test stuff, i remember Seiken 3, which had 6 different characters with 4 different end-game classes each. I wanted to see the best of them all without having to play the game 8 times...(although in the end i did so anyways :gbasp:)

I completely agree, if a save state is cheating depends on the situation and how you use it.

Well some of the older games don't come with a save feature and in those cases save state is really handy. The original Legend of Zelda for example is a much less frustrating game with the save state feature. It does make games easier - but I view it as more fo a time saving feature rather than a cheat. After all, it doesn't give you any abilities that you couldn't have gotten in the game.

Not entirely. Often, save states are used to pratice stages in games that you cant skip a stage and you have to slog all the way back through the preliminary levels. Shooters and run n gunners mainly. Then, once you gained the confidence, you can go for the ALL!
