I don't think that it's cheating, but it's definitely useful. :gs:

I cheated alot with the save cheat. I played games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and the card games. They usually have those card pack for you to buy. I would save before I bought it and would load and open the pack till I get the card that I want. Pretty cunning eh?

For example, yugioh games, I save before making a move, then proceed to find out how the AI is gonna react, if I get screwed, reload turn... so in this case... save states are a cheat.

Technically, it is not a cheat because a cheat would change your character or ingame objects such as NPCs and walls and such. Using a save state to discover shortcuts or change an outcome of a game would still not be cheating because you haven't done anything beyond that save state. Speedrunners use save states in emulators to find the shortest routes then use those new found routes in their speedruns. If save states were classified as cheats then no speed running site would accept them if they found out if you follow the way I drifted.

Puh-leaze. When I played Star Ocean 2, pickpocketing attempts (only allowed once per person) and powerful weapons created from rare items required tons of resetting. To me, Save State is a faster version of reset. :(

OMG!!! I think the instant save to be a God sent. For players like me where we arent THAT great at games, it gets really annoying when you keep dying at a particular point. then with games like Contra where it makes you have to start all the way at the beginning jusgt to die at the same spot again, doesnt make the game very fun. But the instant save really helps. I played Contra Hard Corps on the Sega 8 years ago and didnt get past level 2, I only beat the game last year thanks to the emulators auto save.

Again yeah, it depends on how you use it, I wouldn't really call it "cheating" when I use it because sometimes I've just been playing the game for hours on end and I need a break, and in some games, you can't save whenever you want to. Other times when it's an arcade syle game, and you havn't hit a check point in a while, I'll use it especially after an annoying point that took me a while.

I don't consider it cheating for certain games like fire emblem where your stats get random bonus's when you level up or have one bad match up and lose your most valuable fighter.

i often use the save state.
just image, you loss next flag on RPG or platform game.
you guess next event and go to somewhere hard to reach with long time in vain, or notice you forgot to get one key item... you have to come back with same boring time!
oh, in RPG, at least you might get some exp point, but in platform you get almost nothing.
