one way to force your cube into lagging is by getting to close to the final (true) form metriod prime and using hyper mode at point blank (or a address chage allowing you to do things you arent soposed to.

I've had my cube lag during Paper Mario, while entering random battles. It had me kind of dumbfounded to tell you the truth.

Dust in the drive or fingerprint on a disk can cause difficulties for the disc reader to operate at full speed, causing lag. Keep your stuff clean and loading times will be faster!

I never experienced any lag. Which is strange. My GameCube has been dropped, scratched, and a friend got fingerprints on my Lazer. Nothing happend. My freind's Playstaition however, doesn't work. He never dropped it, scratched it or anything. When the game pauses when you hit someting, that has just been added for effect. I mean, when you hit something in real life you kinda stop for half a second. So, It's simple detail.

It can happen on SSBM if the screen has lots of activity. Many games cause unnoticable drops in framerates or slowdown, as the gamecube was really pushed to its limits during game development from about '02 onwards. Don't worry about it, it's normal.

I haven't encountered lagg but if your vents were clogged or it was over heating then that would have been the cause. However like anything that is running like a GC if theres too much going on then it will lagg to bring it back to a normal level of activity

Well it could be Outdated video drivers if its a lag spike related to video that would cause lag spikes. It could also be outdated wireless drivers that could be to blame or some corrupt registry files.
