Cure. Plain ol' cure. I could do without the upgrades if I had to, 'cuz I rarely heal in battle anyway, but the basic Cure is essential since I generally refuse to use anything consumable completely. As far as attack spells go, Meteo in FFIV was so awesome (even if Bahamut was ten times more useful, due to just the casting speed alone.) It's been practically useless ever since, though.

Ultima all the way, yet meteo is close behind. The animations for those two spells are quite impressive, even in the older Final Fantasy.

Knights of the Round is the best in my opinion, and if you mix it with hero drink it does a lot more damage (if your low lvl)

The magic spell Ultima from ff6/ff3 which is like a blue super nova. It's cool.

My favorite spell was always Ultima or Holy just because they did massive damage by the time you learned it.
