A. Just as contracting a throat illness would stop a debater, who speaks, from operating, so would contracting a debilitation of the legs stop a pedestrian, who walks, from oeprating.

B. Obsteperous means unruly, equable stable, they are roughly inverse. Peccable means sinful, and quintessential pure, again roughly inverse. (I'll complain about the misuse of quintessential here, since it doesn't refer to pure in the moral sense.)

You're right, and I guess you have the right to complain, but going strictly by definition and not connotation, quintessential means without flaws, which would include morality.I only have time for a couple more of these at most at the moment, because I definitely gotta go do something.WINNERS=========penguinman - ISTANDINGS==========1. D, both sets of words are synonymous. The first pair is a type of meandering walk, the second a type of meandering speech. No, quintessential means "5th element", refering to the aether. Purity is a connotative meaning.Edit: You know, I'd be a lot faster if I didn't write in these extra explanatory comments...

I'll say C. While it is true that A is a pair of near-synonyms, so is C, and the parallels between the words are greater in the case of C than they are of A. The first pair in each case is a simple verb derived from old English, while the second is a complex verb with a Latin derivation. There's also a stronger verb case parallel, but I doubt any of you care. If it were thrive:flourish rather than flourish:thrive, then A would be correct, but for the trickier analogies you have to look as much at the use of the word in English as you do its parallel meaning.

burlesque:play::doggerel:verseThe first term of each pair is an unsophisticated form of the latter which borders on (or can even consciously be) a type of caricatured mockery of the higher form.

Oh, and Erachima was correct on this one.

I'm shocked.

C. A hoax is a tactic or method used to deceive, while a filibuster is a tactic or method used to delay. Presumably a hoax filibuster could be used to deceive Delay, but that's beside the point.
