what you can do is to just check the nintendo website on your not-playing-wii time and if there's an update, just turn on your wii and uploadnow, if your friend wants to send u a wii mail or stuff like that, be in contact with that person via other communications device and play together while online at the same timei dun recommend leaving the wiiconnect24 on because it overheats your wii first of allall the others are obvious.

First, the light modes are (Red) Off/Standby-no WiiConnect, (Orange) Off/Standby-WiiConnect, (Green) On, there is no full off optionWhen the Wii is on (green light), that is when it used most of it's power, and it's not a good idea to leave it on like that 24/7, only when you are using itWhen the Wii is in standby with WiiConnect (Orange light), it dosen't take too much power, and also, you can get messages in this mode, being that it stays connected to the internetWhen the Wii is in standby mode without WiiConnect (Red light), everything, including the wireless card is not running, this saves the most power, but you do not get messages in this mode, which is a really great feature of the Wii, but I prefer that if you are about to unplug the Wii, put it on standby mode without WiiConnect (Red light), then unplug it

Why would you? When me and my brother play his Wii, we turn it off when we're done. When we play gamecube games, we take out everything for protection, even the discs! XD

I unplug it every time I finish using it. The only time I'd leave it on (standby or whatever) for a long time is if I forget or fall asleep. But pretty much, it's always off fully.

I don't see the point. I think wiiconnect24 works even when it's off, and if it doesn't it's a simple matter of downloading updates. It's not that hard to cut off power. I just press off button on the plug bar.

I leave it on the default standby. I don't turn it off... *or unplug it like most of you seem to do*

I just put it into standby mode normally, unless I pass out playing it, I don't think it ever be "on" on, all night
