For me it's the electric one in ruby because I always chose Mudkip which is water type.

i think it was the pewter gym back when i was first playing pokemon on yellow.
??? but mudkip is also ground which completely resist elctricity? or is it just its evolutionaries... not sure anymore after this post... but whatever the case mudkip could still destroy the steel/electric with ground for more than quad damage... right?For me it's the electric one in ruby because I always chose Mudkip which is water type.

I think the Ruby/Sapphire 8th gym was the hardest. Sootopolis or something like that. Those annoying water pokemon, especially that Milotic thing.

I'd say the last gyms in the second generation (silver, gold and crystal). the last gym in the first part of the game is a dragon gym so if you don't have any ice pokemon you're in for a tough battle. the last gym in the secon part is blue's gym, and he really has a great team of pokemon and on a high level too.

hmm...all of the gyms are easy. the hardet thing for me was champion gary in pokemon red. the hardest gym for me was lisa and tate.

in yellow, first gym. Hellooo, obvious.. 
Mostly i train the whole game with only 2 pokemon, so rest isnt too hard. (curently on emerald im training 3, so its a little tougher, but good to do)

well for me... it is brock specially in pokemon yellow edition on the old game boy... it's hard to fight rock type pokemon with a main lightning pokemon...

I think that Lt. Surge in the yellow version was hardest. Raichu was his only pokemon, but it was enough. It had a level higher than any of my pokemon, knew moves like thunderbolt and mega punch (which is only notable because this gym is early in the game, and most pokemon don't have these higher level moves at that point in the game) and could knock out my pokemon because they weren't fully evolved yet. As if the battle wasn't hard enough, the trash can puzzle was frustrating!!! For some reason, this didn't carry on to firered and leafgreen. he was much easier in these games.

Id say that the 1st gym in pokemon yellow or the 2nd gym on pokemon red/blue if you pick charmander and when it was LV 40!!!!!!!!! .... i still didnt beat the 2nd gym..... that starmie owned me until i got to lv49 and then FINALLY I COULD GET 2 HITS ON STARMIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's how i beat the 2nd gym in pokemon red..... by the 6th gym my charzard was LEVEL 100! what is wrong with the 2nd gym...

in gold/sliver and crystal Whitney was some what hard sometimes with u take grass the start was a lil hard but was easy with ur other picks

I always had trouble with the water gyms because except for yellow version, you don't really get an electric pokemon easily if at all in the beginning of the game so your other pokemon have to be really good to beat the gym still.

I find the hardest gyms to defeat are the first gyms, with the gym leaders using rock types and you chose a fire type

In Pokemon Diamond Fantina (the ghost gym leader) nearly killed me with her high-level Gengar. Of course, I should have trained my Pokemon up to higher levels, but I still consider her to be the most difficult gym leader in the entire franchise.

Yeah, Whitney is annoying to beat. I think I had a Feraligator by time I beat her. Yup a Feraligator I did stink at those pokemon games.

I allways thought that physics was hardest cause I neva knew their weakness and they all ways seemed to be strong aigainst my best pokemon

for me, its sabrina (psychic) of r/b.at that time, there were no dark type, psychic's weakness was only bug.furthermore, there were little grass moves in that point in time.

When I first played pokemon red, I had to fight Misty about 20 times before I won... now I look back and laugh, but that was tough!
