Ok I listen to a lot of acid rock and rock and a lot of trippppy techno some of those names are Electric Six (their album names are more obscure, look it up cz they are long), The Chemical Brothers, Rage Against the Machine, LCDSoudnsystem. I was glad to see some King Crimson on another post :P

2Cents.These guys fuse the vocals and lyrics of hardcore punk with the sheer energy and rhythm of metal. Imagine Pantera and Advent having a kid. It's just that awesome. These guys can put some of today's metal acts to shame. Emo music beware, there's a new sheriff in town...

I like Sigur Ros and the Polyphonic Spree...and um...The Faint. I don't know if these would be considered obscure or not...

I like most of the surface indie (of Montreal, Sigur Rós et al) that's already been posted.I like Sparklehorse a lot. They're not really that obscure anymore, but Mark Linkous is crazy.I like Gastr Del Sol and have always been a fan of Jim O'Rourke.Recently I've been listening to Tokyo Police Club a lot.

Arcturus is avante garde black metal.Leviathan writes atmospheric black metal, and I've observed elements of indie in their musicOathean combines Asian folk music with Black metal, resulting in horrifically intense music.Cryptopsy is like improvisational jazz on distortion. They play technical death metal and have one of the best drummers in the genre.Augury plays progressive blackened death metal.Dodheimsgard plays industrial black metal.Zweizz is a solo project by the guitarist who was too obscure for Dodheimsgard.Bismukh is a joke black metal bandWindir was an incredibly folky symphonic black metal band. The vocalist/songwriter died, though. And though I really don't like them... Gorguts, some kinda brutal deathgrindnoisecorefunkbreaktechnicalmetal band.

Dir en grey is one of my favorite bands, and not that many people seem to know them (at least here in the U.S., as they're japanese).

Dir En Grey is very much an upperground band. They're really popular, but they don't get radio play, kind of like bands like Atreyu and In Flames.

Most of what I listen to is unpopular. I actually like a lot mainstream stuff, but there's so much interesting obscure music out there. Stuff like: Arab Strap, 65daysofstatic, Silver Jews, Shearwater, The Thermals, Yeasayer, None More Black, Sun Kil Moon, The Pirate Ship Quintet, Silversun Pickups.

Have I mentioned Qntal here yet? They're an excellent German group that call themselves "electro-medieval". They've put to music Queen Elizabeth I's On Monsieur's Departure and John Donne's Song. They rock, and they've become my favorite group lately. There are six albums, each more interesting than the next, but I only have Qntal IV: Ozymandias, V: Falling Star, and VI: Translucida. I suggest you find some of their music online, maybe on YouTube (which I know has Von Den Elben from Ozymandias). Then go and buy their albums because they're great.
