My PS2 is only 1 year old and it plays perfectly besides maybe some freezes from CodeBreaker.

My 3rd ps2. this 1 is about 2 yrs i think. My 1st 2 broke because my sis doesn't doesn't understand stay the ***k outta my room. But thinks that means run in and trip over controllers wires. UM 1st was like 3 yrs i think and 2nd was 1 or 2 can't member. I suppose after the 1st time i shoulda gotten wireless controls. I still should do that i think........

Mine is about 2 years old and runs like it's 6 months old. It's awesome.

now that they arent making anymore of the bigger ps2's. the ones that are still out are starting to break down. mine broke down last week and i was forced to buy a slim ps2. but i dont mind, its just that i had my big ol' ps2 for like 2-3 years.
