Old School. If it wasnt for them you New School people wouldnt have anything. For Ex. Mario, Zelda, Megaman, and Sonic.

I think too many games nowdays try to hard to be "old-school". You can't make a game like that, it just happens overtime.

"New school games" are obviously better. Yeah, old school games are the base of gaming, but new games take old school games and give them prettier graphics, improved gameplay and sometimes a more interesting story.

New school games are great with the respect to graphics, but some the old school games, like Zelda, Mario, and Sonic, are still fun to play.

"New school games" are obviously better. Yeah, old school games are the base of gaming, but new games take old school games and give them prettier graphics, improved gameplay and sometimes a more interesting story.

That's the problem, often, the new version of an old serie does not improves the gameplay, it changes it completely by going from 2D to 3D. For instance, Ninja Gaiden, from the NES version to the Xbox, or Zelda, from the NES to the Wii, there is a huge difference, not only in term of graphics, but also gameplay and such.I wouldn't say one is better, but I still prefer "old-school" games, mainly due to 2D scrolling (not graphics, but scrolling) making games more harder (in term of difficulty). For instance, I prefer Super Mario 1-2-3-World than Super Mario 64 or the later Mario. New Super MArio Bros would be a good exemple of old-school game with nowadays technology. Also, my favorite genres are 2D fighting games and shoot'em up and only the old-school ones (Gradius V, Ikaruga, ESP Galuda, Mushihime Sama, a lot of manics/danmaku), meaning those with a 2D gameplay, not necessarily 2D graphics. The best thing is not to let oneself just play one type of "school" and try every appealing games in both categories, there are so much treasures in old and new school games, that would be a shame to miss them !

I like turn bases rpgs which are getting hard to find (well, in Europe anyway). Most rpgs are like elder scrolls and so. I also like them, but I prefer the turn based ones and I also tend to like 2D graphics better than those "realistic" 3D ones.

i gotta say new school because know matter how much old school contributed to new school games the gameplay is terrible and it's kinda of hard to the games in the new school games the graphics have gotten really close to reality

I like to think that new school games are influenced by the old school. Be it cameo appearances by character, general plot or storyline, or even music. The best is when they take modern technology and make a new school remake of an old school game. One of the best examples was Super Mario Allstars + World and Pokemon Fire Red. I've got all my old school favorites in my pocket thanks to new school tech.

There's a reason the term "Old School" is used how it is and with such vindication.
