I think that pokemon is the most famous because everybody knows about pokemon, but I don't think that it is the most popular.

This topic is on if Pokemon is the most well known, not if it's the best...with that said, yes, I think that Pokemon is much more recognizable than Final Fantasy.

Woah where you been?Pokemon is nowhere near as popular as FF and many other RPG's like Dragon quest.i think pokemon is the most famous rpg in the world because every body like it and dont like it talks about pokemon.

Well..... pokemon allows you to have a wider selection of characters and techniques, its basically the same story over and over. Final Fantasy has amazing story lines and good graphics but little change of characters and techniques, so its kinda even, i mean walk up to somebody and ask if they know about pikachu and then ask about say cloud from ff7, there both known really well.

If you mean famous as in well known then only if you dont consider anything by square enix.....but it is in no way the best rpg.Not even close.

I think it really depends on where the market is being focused on when you ask this question (But don't drag MMORPGs into this, they don't count as a "traditional" RPG). For example, many of my friends, when asked, would easily reply that they remember playing Pokemon (or not) at one time or another in their life. On the other hand, fewer actually know what Final Fantasy is as opposed to having simply heard the name in the sea of other games with pedigree brands like GTA and Halo. I am a diehard fan of Final Fantasy, though I must admit that Pokemon is the more well known at this point. Let's face it, the game marketed very well to its target audience, which was children (originally). With progression over the years, the younglings are continuously introduced to Pokemon by their peers or older siblings, and the cycle continues. Final Fantasy has the power out of these two (at least in my own opinion), but lacks the proper amount of marketing to really make it as much of a household name as Pokemon.

No I wouldn't say Pokemon. Final Fantasy has been around a way longer and I think FF is better anyway

pokemon is great but final fantasy is much better for the older children of more than 12 years old but even that i still like to play the new pokemon games that just came out (to check the new pokemon )

I like Pokemon it's my most played game but there are other RPGs out there too. For example Golden Sun and Final Fantasy which are also good. I don't think that there is one best RPG out there but for me it is Pokemon.

Final Fantasy has been around much longer than Pokemon. Pokemon, however, has generally sold more games than Final Fantasy has. I like Final Fantasy because I really don't count Pokemon as an RPG.

Pokemon is by FAR the most famous rpg in the world. I would guess a little less than half of the world has played pokemon, or seen pokemon, and I don't think that propbably 99 percent of the world has atleast heard of pokemon. In fact if you can find a person who hasnt heard of pokemon you would probably have to searh cor people that have lived under a rock for the last couple years... Games like Final Fantasy have a strong following of loyal players.. divided into the category of people that play and those who don't. Anyone you ask will know what a pikachu is, Adults and Kids alike... There is absolutely no comparison with the following of say WoW or Runescape to Pokemon. Go ask someone what a pikachu is, and then go ask someone else what the Burning Crusade is and I can guarantee more people will know pikachu...
