For me, Season 3 was the best. Even though the last couple of episodes was centered on Jeri, the show still gave attention to the rest of the characters, lots of attention. The final boss was also a great idea, introducing something that wasn't human nor digimon. The concept of Bio-Merging also broke the rule of "humans are only cheerleaders who give energy to their partners" because they actually "fight" the digimon (well, Marcus also counts, but that's a different story).
Season 1 would come up next. Nostalgia. The episodes in which Tai and Matt fought with each other is the main reason why season 1 isn't my favorite.
Although I don't really have any reasons to dislike it, but Season 5 really didn't get to me. Perhaps it's the fact that a Demon Lord became fused with a human ticked me off? Beelzemon and Lucemon don't look seem that easy to fuse with. Favorite arc, the one with the Royal Knights, ended too soon and some of them didn't even get to speak 3 sentences.
Season 4 had a good plot. Final boss Lucemon was also intense. But, the powerups were only given to the gogglehead and the cool kid and Seraphimon was as weak as a In-Training.
Personally, Season 2 had potential to be good, but they blew the chance. It's okay to introduce new characters, but I just don't like Davis. DNA Digivolution? That just turned our favorite Angemon from season 1 into a giant teapot.

Well, I only ever sat down and watched the first three seasons of digimon so my decision well be based on my feelings about those series. And, I feel torn between season one and three to be honest. The first season introduces us to the concept and a young team that grows through growth as the story progresses. On the other hand it suffers from repeated animation, speed lines, and other cost saving measures rather frequently, but the show had a lot of heart despite it's animated short comings. On the other side of things season 3 had a more dark feeling to it and ends with a rather bitter sweet, but hopeful ending. The third season also expands upon the universe as well and much like season 2 has tie ins to the digimon video games that were only released in Japan for the WonderSwan.
On the dark side of things I find season 2 to be a proverbial mess. It suffers from having many ideas brought up but never expands upon the bulk of them properly. The best example of this being the world of darkness and Kari's connection to it. The show just seems to bring it up out of nowhere in episode 13 and doesn't talk about until numerous episodes later only to tie it up as quickly and neatly as possible.
In others humans had no need... Only for holding a certain item...
That isn't exactly true. In the first three seasons the digimon get the required energy to digivolve from their tamers. The digimon literally feed on their emotions in order to gain the power to digivolve for short bursts of time in order to protect them. It offers an interesting symbiotic relationship between humans and digimon and shows the strong bonds necessary for a digimon to reach it's ultimate potential. And, the first and third season also had fairly rounded cast of main characters for a show geared towards a younger audience.

My favorite was digimon tamers. I remember fighting with my sister for tv time just so I could watch it. Not only did it have some of my favorite digimon in it like megidramon and impmon, it had some bizarre things in like the d-reaper which I liked. I tried drawing some of them but it never turned out well lol

I probably loved the second season a little more, where they introduce the Digimon kaiser (Digimon emperor). I thought they portrayed him quite well, although i'd love to see him in the original, you know, where it hasn't been dubbed and they don't cut shit out from the original content introduced.
I thought the third season was kinda weird. Like what the hell is the d-reaper anyway? Some kind of Digi-virus? I really loved that they made twelve zodiac digimon, and the four digimon sovereign was pretty cool too. I guess I should just re-watch that whole season again since it basically made zero sense while I saw it.

Digimon season 1: I like it more than it's sequel cause itreally explores the kids a lot more, I get an understanding of how the digimon's world works and it's a lot more itneresting to watch when you have te group working with the individual abilities and not fusing every fight.
Digimon season 3: I liked the digimon designs, the digi destined were a bit fresh in who they were and the overall dark themes of the season were done well. Also, I'm a Renamon fan, but that's cause she had a great character and developement.
