Gran Turismo and God of War are gigantic hits. Why wouldn't they want to make more? You've got to consider that they're first and foremost a business. Don't hold any illusions that their top priority isn't making money.

I see nothing wrong in the recycling of names. Seriously, what's in a name? You can call a banana an eggplant, but that doesn't change what it is. What annoyed me the most regarding names is quite the opposite of your opinion. Seriously, Wii? I had to check my calender to find out if they were pulling some April's Fool prank. And 360 just seemed to come out of nowhere, made me cringe slightly too. But I got over it, so I guess you have to get over the lack of "creativity", if that's what you are going to use to call the inspiration for the names I've mentioned.

When I update a database or user system at work I dont give it some fancy name, I just up the version number.this way people are clear on what they are using and dont get put off when something is given a fancy name and it doesnt live up to its name.to be fair all the need for speeds and grand theft autos I have lost track of, you cant lose track of a number,

You do realize that Sony itself did not name those games lol. The game developers named them, and those are well-established series. They do the repeat names because the games of the same name previously made were good/great and sold well, and by using the same name consumers and fans automaticly know what it is and are more aware of it. Brand recognition is good for business. Plus adding a lot of extra words usually makes me want to laugh at the title. Like when games add an extreme "extreme" to the title, so actually the Playstation Extreme would not be taken seriously by me. Anyway, it's not the name it's the content that counts :P@spiralbond lol 360 degrees is full circle so it would be back where it started XD

Creativity is the heart of videogames where relating products to other products is the heart of industry. I would like more creative names but the names they thought of first is making them money.

I don't think "creativity" is the proper word to use in the example brought up by the topic creator. It's basically business sense, the names are not "creative" in order to prevent confusion and to keep things simple. I mean, my favourite Anime/Manga series "When They Cry" has interesting and creative names based on the storyline, but when I started, I was seriously put off by the confusing names which told me nothing about sequence, like the "Watanagashi" chapter or the "Onikakushi" chapter. There's honestly no need to be creative for the names of games or the game station. Seriously, when I first heard the name of the Xbox 360, my eyes rolled so far that I could see my own brain. And don't get me started on the "Wii", it's just poor taste, not creativity at all.I would honestly like to hear the topic creator's solutions to the lack of creativity; maybe the "Playstation Strikes Back!" or "God of War: This Time It's Personal". A game is a game, no matter what you call it, and I'd rather the creators spend more time in being creative on things with substance like gameplay rather than wasting time on brainstorming for and "edgy" name.

If you want to bash Sony and their Playstation you shouldn't go listing off console names or game series. Those happen anywhere. For example, Nintendo has made many consoles and game series too. Maybe you just think some titles aren't too creative (ie just dumping a number after the title). But if you really want to bash Sony and their Playstation, you have to accuse them of stealing all of Nintendo's ideas. Nintendo sort of taught Sony how to make video games/video game consoles, added motion control to PS3 controller, and now they made a full blown motion control system which the controller looks just like a wii mote (sort of). It doesn't bother me because I'd buy it all the same. However, making original stuff would be nice. Note that it is hard to be original though.

If you're gonna bash Sony's creativity you might as well bash every other game system/company for creativity. Every gaming company recycles ideas. and to Spiralbond, the controller hasnt been changed because it doesn't need to be. Nintendo released the Wii and its controller system before it was perfected and now are trying to compensate with the Wii motion plus. Xbox has the same controller just shaved down to actually be able to be held.

@spiralbond lol 360 degrees is full circle so it would be back where it started :P

he's Trolling haha :haha: it makes no sense.

its funny how people think that just because they have the same names it automatically means its the same game...just because they have the name lik final fantasy, THEY'RE ALL DIFFERENT, how r u going to compare them all? they all play different specially comparing 1 and 7 or 1 and 10, 11 and 14 are MMO's totally different, and sony isnt the only ones doing it...microsoft and nintendo...mario super strikers...mario galaxy...mario galaxy 2...so forth, people still buy them they might be similar but thats how u attract fans...they wouldnt be fans if it were a different title...just gamers...

Sony has been struggling a bit lately with creativity. I'm not a big fan of the push for 3d tech in games since it takes away from the framerate and how many people really have 3d tv's at this point. I haven't tried out Move yet, but I'm really not going to dump 100 bucks for a motion controller when I hardly use the Wii as it is.

PlayStationPlayStation 2PlayStation 3God of WarGod of War IIGrand TurismoGrand Turismo 2Grand Turismo 3Grand Turismo 4Is it just me, or are their many repeats up there? All I'm saying is, Sony come up with some new names man. Why not PlayStation Extream? Grand Trismo: Sway? God of War: Blood Bath?Creativity, goes a long way.Edit:Sorry for the horrible spelling. Thanks guitar

According to magazines like Game Informer, it's a better marketing strategy to go with regular sounding names. What would you be more comfortable walking up the counter with? God of War II or Yu-Gi-Oh 5d Super Tournament Championship Duel Edition 2021?Exactly.

I think Sony the greatest and much better than Wii and Xbox 360. I love the games, graphics, online gaming and the controllers. Some say the controllers for xbox 360 are much better but I find that they are perfectly shaped to make your hand feel more comfortable.

I have PS3, i like HD graphics, sony is really good at it, but as you said it lacks of creativity... games get really boring by the time... for example, what do you say about God of War III really good game, great graphics, awesone finale to the trilogy(if they're not launching any other GoW) but... too too short... you can beat the game in one day (full 24 hrs lol)... and what's next... nothing!I think sony should be even more creative and bring us better games... y'know i have a ps3 but no games cause for me no games worth buying it... every game i play either I rented it or a friend borrowed it.... what do you say?

Tell the game developers to do something else....I think it's not as bad as naming everything with 64 at the end "Blah Blah 64" like Nintendo did.

repetitive? a lil bit sure but those r long running franchises for a reason. but that doesnt sony is just looking to cash in a la activision blizzard style. every great game turns into a series, thats the obvious step. little big planet, killzone, metal gear solid, god of war, gran turismo. they all started as an original idea that was too succesful to just stop
