What you will need !
  • A copy of Alcohol 120% (I'm using 1.9.5 Build 3823 in this Tutorial)
  • A PlayStation game image (BIN, CUE, IMG, ISO, MDS, NRG, Ect.)
  • A CD or DVD drive that is capable of burning CDR discs
  • An empty CDR to burn that image onto
From this point on I'll just assume you have all the necessary software and hardware installed and that you have already extracted the game image. For this Tutorial i will be burning Resident Evil 2 Disc 1 (RE2_DISC1.mds) and i am running Windows Xp Sp2. Posted Image(Your file Icons may be different) Ok now lets load up Alcohol 120% and take a look. Posted ImageInsert an empty CDR into your first drive and select Image Burning Wizard from the menu to the left.Posted ImageThe Image Burning Wizard window should pop up. Posted ImageHit the Browse button and select the game image you want to burn, RE2_DISC1.mds in my case. After you select the game image you will see a little bit of information about the image.Posted ImageDon't sweat it for now, just hit the Next button. The first thing you should do now is take a look at the Write Speed setting. Posted ImageLike always you should switch it from Maximum to anything under 24x. I usually use 12x for Dreamcast and PlayStation games but since Alcohol 120% wont let me use 12x (For some stupid reason) ill just use 16x. Burning at 12x (Or 16x in this case) reduces the chance of running into errors while playing like choppy game play or FMV playback. Now you can just hit the Start button and burn the image but some people have had problems burning PlayStation games with the default Write Method DAO / SAO. I personally have never had a problem burning PlayStation games with these settings but just in case you do here is how to change it. On the bottom left corner there is a Datatype drop down menu.Posted ImageAll you have to do is Select Play Station and change the Write Speed back down to anything under 24x. Hit Start, Wait for the burning process to finish and hopefully you have successfully burned your first PlayStation game with Alcohol 120%. Congratulations Now Go Kill Some Zombies! It will work. You're talking about the 1st disc of FF7, right? I have the real game. My dump is 712 mb, I've made copies for some of my friend who lost their discs for various reason, and they've all reported that the discs works on their modded ps1. The third disc of Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete is 19mb over, but it works for me...so you don't have to worry about bad copies or anything. You do have to check your CD-/DVD-R drive though, since some drives cannot make 1:1 copies.EDIT: This should be stickied. No reason to create extra topics with this guide in place!

Unless you're willing to finance my gaming experience, I don't think you will have a definitive answer to that from me for another...say 3~5 years. The ps3 is just too damned expensive for me. I think the game should work, since the ps3 runs ps2 game off an emulator (for Linux if I'm not mistaken). By induction, it also runs ps1 games by emulation. If it runs via emulation, then it probably does not bother to (or cannot) recognize the difference between a copied game and a "real" game. There should be a good chance that your game will run, but there is no loss if it doesn't. It's not like inserting a copied disc fries your blue-ray drive's laser emitter.EDIT: I heard the emulation in the ps3 is badly implemented. Maybe you can tell me more about it when (if) you try to play off the boot-leg disc?

i still have my ps2, i will see if it will play on that here after im out of school, but i put it into my ps3 and it only reads it as a data disc, but will not load any music, videos, pictures or files from it let alone recognizing it as a playable game... maybe there is a way to get an emulator program onto a cd and load it into my ps2 or ps3 then attempt to run it from an emulator?? idk... any thoughts?

The ps3 runs on Linux, and ePSXe definitely works with Linux. You can try using the Linux plugins found here: http://www.ngemu.com...?cat=1&os=linuxOf course, the Linux pseudo-OS on the ps3 does not have access to all the hardware resources of the ps3 (maybe it's the lack of drivers?), so you may not get the best results possible.

Yes, but it won't render the game as well as a relatively new pc, since it has very little access to the ps3's hardware resources. You can find out more here: http://forums.ngemu....k-psx2-emu.htmlSo, yes, it will probably run, but it will render the game worse than a cheap computer...with integrated Intel "video card."

What if I don't have the file as a .mdf or .mds? Will it still work, or is there a way to make the file different?

No, works the same way. Just choose the ISO file. Alcohol 120 recognizes MDS, CCD, CUE, ISO, BWT, CDI, NRG, and PDI file formats.

I kinda have a problem, the game I'm trying to burn is in .BIN format, and my copy of Alcohol 120% doesn't accept .BIN.-Nick O.

Try to copy it by mounting it on Daemon Tools first or just use PowerISO.

cool man, thanks for this, this is the best explanation i've found. I have got the first cd of Star Ocean: Second Story that I downloaded, but in the .rar file it has an .img, a .sub, and a .ccd. I know the .img is the most important, but what do I do with the other files? Any Idea?

Just keep .img, it's the only one you need. :-]

Alright mate, great tutorial ;)After downloading a game, i have extracted it directly. But i saw only 2 files, .bin and .img.....bin is very large, 657 MB to be exact,The .img-file is essentially small, exactly 1 KB :whistling: So, i dont think that the .img-file is the most important one....it cant be possible to burn 1 KB and play a full game...so what am i supposed to do now or what do i have to do??

Depends on what software you're using for mounting and what software for burning. The funny thing (or perhaps not as funny as annoying) is, the current version of Alcohol 120% can't mount bin files or directly (I'm confirming this with the Alcohol window open right in front of me). I think Daemon Tools and Virtual CD v8 can mount the .bin file directly, then you can do a CD copy with anything, Alcohol, Nero or whathaveyou. However, it seems to mount .img files if you force it to (by selecting *.* from file types and selecting the .img file).
