Since this thread is on the DS board, I'm assuming the focus is on DS games. If that is the case, there's some pretty simple reasons that most of the good DS games are Japanese. For starters, the manufacturer of the system is based in Japan, and so will have a large focus on winning over Japanese developers. It's difficult for even a large business to get developers to make games for them when they are over-seas, and also speak a different language. The opposite happens to Microsoft trying to get Japanese developers. They're more likely to sign contracts with Nintendo or Sony. Also, consider the hand-held game market in general. Most of the market for handheld systems and games is in Japan or Europe, and, to my knowledge, there's not many European Developers (that I'm aware of anyway). Because the market for the games is overseas, not many north american developers hop onto the handheld bandwagon, except to do tie-ins for the games they are developing for the console systems. And at that, they are usually pretty dumbed down, and low quality games by handheld standards. The game industry is a unique one, but it's still a business. When looking at things like where all the good games come from, sometimes you have to follow the money trail, too.

it's just that america likes to make different types of games, like fps, which isn't really that popular on ds (except for metroid prime hunters of course). and it's mostly that japan just makes more games so it's not really fair.

It's also easier in Japan because you don't have to translate into English!

Well lets see Nintendo is from Japan and Nintendo is the supplier of most good handheld games... Xbox and playstation aren't from Japan so most of those games aren't from Japan (well I know Xbox is but not sure about Playstation) So by saying most good games are from Japan your saying most good HANDHELD games (in spirit of which forum we're in) And since most stuff is goes in a Japan-USA-rest of the world-europe fashion one can conclude that (as most people said earlier) that thats because most of the actually NDS Games COME from Japan so only some games e.g (off the top of my mind) Hotel Dusk room 215 Is (I suspect) American but release about 1 day before the Japanese.

I dunno, Ubisoft makes some pretty great games and they're not from Japan same with Rockstar. Now, if you're only talking DS games, majority of the developing companies are from Japan, so it would make sense that a lot of good games come out of Japan.

Missing out on a veritable shitton of series there buddy. Also its not the region but the group developing that determines if a game will be good or bad. Look at Sonic Team, they used to be great but everything lately has been horrible.Alternatively look at Naughty dog, Crash games were just average, but the Jak and Daxter series is great. Same with Insomniac and Spyro/ratchet and clank. Also anime has nothing to do with games, especially when you consider most games based on anime are horrible.

yes... a lot of the creative games ARE from japan... and they are easy and addictive... U.S games.. are more complex though... but there are still some that are good

Japan always have the best games, and all other countries just translate their games into crappy subtitles then sell them in their country. Japan's games are the best for all consoles except for PC.

I think it just really depends on where you come from. With American background and influnence, people in N.A tend to like for example first person shooter or sports games more. Whereas japanese comes up with lots of puzzle and rpg games alot of the time. Those are more creative in gameplay etc... but then not all the good games are exclusively from Japan.

Well, Nintendo (Famicom LOL >.<) was founded in japan, so of course the games have to get there first. The US games are lame though, and I agree, here in the U.S. We don't get the variety of games the japanese gamers get. As far as i can see, the U.S. only focuses on games that make children, and teenagers violent, Grand Theft Auto (and all its copies "Icon, the Godfather... ehh... i dont like sony that much.) the US mostly focuses on shooting games, which is why i think it fails. Japanese games bring to us fantasy worlds, with magic and mystery.

I wouldn't say all the good games were from japan, they just have a different culture from us from the west, Meaning there tastes will be different so their games will seem more innovative. It's the same with the asian movie market.
