I think mostly people buy them based on the pokemon on the cover. Firered for example obviously was more popular because many people like charizard.Personally though, I look at which pokemon are available in each version. I went for leafgreen because it had the pokemon I wanted. like sandshrew and vulpix.

I usually go for the game less people buy because then i always have a different version than my friends so i can trade them for the other version exclusives

get the 1 which you like better, consider the legendaries more, do you like defense, or do you like attack?

Seriously using legendaries is lame. Now if you can get a powerful team that has only standard pokemon, that's an achievement.

its probably because of the name, and thats it, a more in depth reason could be that more people like the version exclusive pokemon of one game over the other, but im just gonna stick with the name thing

i think its because pearl looks semi pinkish and diamond is blue. Generally girls go for the pink and guys go for the blue. At least thats what i did. i got my girlfriend the pearl and i got the diamond.

It usually has to do with the legendary pokemon I get. I rarely have chance to trade, so I have to make the choice beforehand. And Pearl is cool...Pink is radical man.

I guess it has to just do with how it sounds like or what everybody chooses. If someone likes a certain name over the other, I'm pretty sure that his friend will also choose that same game. Also, I think it has to do with personal preference over color. For example, I like Green more than Red, so despite what a lot of people got, I chose Leaf Green. Also, I'm sure it has to do with the different Pokemon choices.

I always get the 1st one. Like, Red, Gold, Ruby, Fire Red and Diamond.I've never wondered why though ...

I guess I go with the type, such as fire or water, or in other words colour, and the pokemon shown on the front. I usually go for the red types, signifying fire, and with the cooler looking pokemon on the front. :P

I'm telling you it's because people want one legendary over another.

Usually, they go for the name.(Ruby/Fire Red/Diamond) but it should always have to do something with the Pokemon in it.

For me it's usually the one my brother isn't hetting. We usually make a deal and say I'll get one, you'll get the other so we can trade the exclusives e.g. I had Blue, he had Red...I had Silver, he had Gold etc. The real challenge is, now he doesn't want to get the latest one (doesn't have own ds) which one do I pick! <_<

Why don't we compare the games, shall we?http://www.psypokes....differences.php for FireRed/LeafGreen. These are only different in the pokemon that are available. They have their benefits and drawbacks. ---> FireRed is superior in the fact that it has Electabuzz (far superior to magmar in that electabuzz gets ice punch (the only electric type to get a decent ice move aside from hidden power, save a lanturn) and a decent attack, while magmar is a fire type, which is outclassed by most other types in coverage and weaknesses), Skarmory (useful for link battles - the famed SkarmBliss Combo), and scizor, a bug/steel baton passer.---> Leaf Green is superior in 2 or 3 ways - the variety of psychics (slowbro, slowking, and starmie are only available in LG), the best suicune counter (link, again - Mantine), and the runner up for best fire types in usefulness (Charizard being first, Magmar is second as it has confuse ray, t-punch, psychic).Ruby vs. Sapphire differences:Pokemon:---> Mawhile, Ludicolo, Seviper, Lunatone, Kyogre, Latias---> Sableye, Shiftry, Zangoose, Solrock, Groudon, Latios-----> Ludicolo beats out Shiftry in draining, staying, and is complemented by kyogre's drizzle ability. Mega Drain, Leech Seed, Toxic, S-toss/Ice Beam/Fake out/Nature Power/Surf, when combined with kyogre, makes it the best special sponge in RuSa, next to Regice, Lanturn, Latias. Shiftry, however, gets a good chlorophyll, powerful solar beam, good brick break/shadow ball combo, nature poweR (rock slide, blaze kick, swift are all perfect).-----> Mawile vs. Sableye is very close. You either get a good baton passer, or one with no weakness. The one with no weakness has absolutely no stats, though, and mawile has nothing to pass <_< Don't get either.-----> Zangoose > Seviper. Swords Dance, Flail, shadow ball, sky high attack. What more do you want? Seviper has a terrible ability, is outclassed by weezing and muk in poison type. Pretty bad.-----> Solrock > Lunatone. Choice band explosion is always nice, as is rapid spin. flamethrower takes out the likely counter (that'd be steels in general). Lunatone gets the ice beam, calm mind, and better special attack. -----> Groudon vs. Kyogre is the biggest difference. But, IMO, Kyogre > Groundon. Surf, Thunder, Ice Beam, Calm Mind, sky high Sp.Atk. Groudon is stuck with sunnybeaming (it sucks, even on the better pokemon), fails to get calm mind (to protect it from ice beams and boost the solar beam power), and has a slew of special weaknesses (enemy solar beamerS), and it can't take the solar beams like kyogre can take thunder/solar beam.-----> Latias > Latios, as it gets good defensive moves, and stays around. Alot. Latios is frail, and doesn't really get a diffferent movepool (trying dragon dance is not a smart idea).Gameplay:Do you want to help Aqua (that'd be ruby), or do you wish to help magma (sapphire)? Thats it.RuSa vs. EmeraldPokemon Differences:~Get both Groudon and Kyogre (after the elites, which sucks)~Get a choice of which lati~Lose out on zangoose, lunatone, medicham, roselia, and surskit/masquerain (well, you can get surskit through mixing records, but not really a loss anyway, is it?)~Get a whole bunch of new pokemon from johto (this is more a FrLg change - see below)~Both fossils w/o trading~Ditto in the cave in backGameplay:~Battle Fronteir (and tutors)~Fight both Aqua and Magma (extra experience)~Get rayquaza vbefore the elites (still level 70, though)~Need to beat elites to get national dex (one draw back - now you have to beat the elites to fight in colluseum, and to trade with FrLg)~Contests are now all located in Lilycove (no more moving around)~Pickup is now based on the level of pokemon~Pokemon for the gym leaders/elites are changed (from donald's guide, in case you are lazy. If not, click http://www.gamefaqs..../921905/36012):CHANGE: The Gym Leaders have different/more PokemonIMPACT: Yay, more in-game experience! The types haven't changed, but the Pokemon have:~ Roxanne now has two Geodude and a Nosepass~ Brawly added a Meditite~ Wattson dropped the Magnemite for an Electrike, and also ispacking a Manectric~ Flannery dropped one of her Slugma for a Numel AND a Camerupt~ Norman kicked one Slaking to the curb, replacing it with a Spindaand a Linoone~ Winona dropped her Swellow for a Swablu and Tropius~ In addition to the Lunatone/Solrock team, the twins now haveClaydol and XatuThe eighth Gym Leader is completely different from Ruby/Sapphire -a new guy by the name of Juan. He has 3 members of Wallace's oldteam, retaining Luvdisc (LOL), Sealeo, and Whiscash. The Seakingand Milotic are gone, replaced with Crawdaunt... and Kingdra. Yipee.IMPACT: Some minor adjustments have made this version of the Elite4 slightly harder - Sidney, tired of Sharpedo dying to a Wurmple'sTackle, has replaced it with a Crawdaunt. Drake is no longer deadto a Walrein, as he switched out one of his Flygon for a Kingdra. And we have a new Champion... bet you were wondering where Wallaceended up. He's now the League champion, so anyone who picked Treeckoat the start may want to keep him around for a while. Only Whiscashand Milotic remain from his old Gym team (and even then, they'rejacked up 15 levels), and the other four slots go to a Tentacruel,Gyarados, Ludicolo, and a Wailord all in the high 50s.(yes, the ghost lady and the ice lady are the same)You still fight steven, but only once, from what I've heard. he's in Meteor Falls.Aside from the Kanto vs. Hoenn, a couple of changes from FrLg:~You can get houndour, mareep, aipom, pineco, shuckle, teddiursa, stantler, smeargle without e cards and altering cave by going to the safari zone after the elites~You can get smeargle in its own little area (Artisan cave - battle fronteir)~Suddowuddo is available (battle fronteir - only one)Yeah, long post, most typed by me (a bit was copied from Donald's guide - kudos to him and gamefaqs.)

well since you know as each game has pokemon the other game doesnt.. probably firered has the better pokemon tht leaf green doesnt. And also i read this in a magizene. back in like 2005 they held this pokemon festival and gave away data for deoxys so u could catch him. supposedly, fire red had the attack verision of deoxys, leaf green had the def, and emrald had the speed version. everyone likes the attak pokemon, so they chose firered.

I think all the colors are the same. It is just some conspiracy by the game creators to make money. Those punks.

I do it mainly because of the Pokemon differences in the games: Groudon over Kyogre, Dialga over Palkia, and the wild pokemon diffs too.
