About 1.2K can get you a computer that will be able to run most games well.

Mmm. probably no more than $4000...I don't think anybody would really need $5000... I can make a very good, probably will all the latest and best specs for a significant amount less than $5000.

I built mine in $2,800. High end PC gaming is not a cheap hobby. Oh by the way a custom made PC is cheaper than a prebuilt system.

heres a guide of what i think.....$1000- Enough to play recent (2006-2007) games on a relatively medium to high setting$1500- Enough to play all the latest games on high settings, SOME tiny lag spikes may occur$2000- Enough to play super games on medium to high settings such as assasins creed or crysis$3000 and above- Enough to run anything you can throw at it with high settings till probably at least the end of 2008

What do you mean box? Mine's a laptop... lolAnd if I'm going to buy a new one (probably in 3 years or more, I hope) I'll spend around S$1500 for a desktop (the box) or S$1800 for a laptop. Now what's that in US$ (or other currencies)...P.S. Just realised - is the poll in US$ or what

It really depends on what kind of computer. They have these little lap-tops now for only $300. Thats what I would buy.

I said 1000$, but that's because there's no lower price. I would pay 500-900$ for a brand-new, non-Vista computer.

I'm perfectly comfortable laying 2-3k down on a machine and would love to spend more if I could (I simply can't yet) once I have the credit/cash to buy a maxed out alienware or better yet voodoopc (or falcon northwest) you can bet I will. Current machine (alienware m15x) has set me back about 2500-hoping to use it 3 years or so (I can warranty it that long) after that I will probably upgrade)

I recently spent about $1500 on my computer. Bought a new one, as the old began to fade. Got me a nVivia 8800GT, an Intel Q9450 and 2GB of RAM, among others. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it fares, compared to my old system. I can play Crysis with high graphics smooothly and score well on canyourunit.com's test of Age of Conan (Haven't renewed my subscription, so I can't run it. Lack Vista, so i don't pass Recommended. O_OXD. Only problem I have is the mic on my motherboard; but fortunately, I have a sound card salvaged from my old PC.

Well, for me it all depends.I'll gladly pay $5000 for a computer I build myself for the best parts that will go together (quad core, multiple graphics cards, sound card touch screen, etc) if it's a gaming PC.I'd also be willing to pay up to, but no more than $3000 for a high end mac tower (definitely not for gaming, but I love mac OS, and I don't want a hackintosh).

I would never spend anything over 4000 on a comp... just because in 2 years a computer becomes obsoleteAlso... If you want a super duper amazing awesome computer, like those voodoo computers that cost like 5000 pounds, you can just look up the hardware specs, get the same parts and BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER!!! only it won't have thepretty voodoo symbol laser cut on your pretty metal frame and neon tubes covering your wires =(

Max I'll ever spend it 3000 USD ... that's for new everything- screen, keyboard, speakers, mobo, etc. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't need much more than $3000 for an rig unless you're going super extreme and just chucking the latest and greatest.

I built a great gaming PC for my brother for only about $700. I would never spend over $3000 for a full PC, including all software, monitor(s), ect.

Mine was initially a pre-built Compaq Presario model, bought for about $1200 (60000 INR), but over time, after upgrading components and all, it's now become a custom one :P Preparing to buy a new one for my li'l sis, it's gonna cost less than $900 with all the latest parts (they won't ship the OS though, but I got a legit XP CD myself :jacked: ).

I would buy a $1000 dollar on a computer, then eventually buy a new graphics card, more RAM, new towers, power supply. Maybe.

No way it could be 20,000 bucks.

Since i live in England I would spend around £600-700 which is around $1500 but things in England cost more so if it was for the US it would be more like $1200. Also after a year or 2 upgrades would be needed, more Ram, better GFX card and so on.
