Very Good

Haven't played many PC Games.Out of the small number I've played, Age of Empires III was the best. There was also World of Goo which was one heck of a fantastic physics-puzzle game. I fell in love with that game. But overall, it was Age of Empires III that won my heart. Nothing better then creating a massive army to blow up the opposition.

Nethack or Dwarf Fortress. Those two are definitely proving what computers are best for - ever-growing and adapting games released electronically. Otherwise, I might go with Dune II - it started the RTS genre, and while it lacks in multiplayer, I don't mind that. Corncob 3D also still rocks my socks for a flight sim.

I would have to say the diablo series, the amazing multiplayer that combines questing, with possible group activities, and the PvP is just freaking awesome =D I seriously can't wait for Diablo 3

Mass Effect series is the best for me.. great graphics with nice storyline..For storyline itself, try Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.. a bit old though..And for detailed graphic but not-that-good storyline, try DragonAge..edit:---------I just noticed, these are all Bioware games.. haha! im not a bias person though.. they are just very good enough for me..moreover, blizzard's Starcraft 2 is also good for me, if not better.. i really enjoyed hundreds of hours on it, and i'm not done yet...

I think the entire corporation of Blizzard should take credit; they make very well crafted games (pun not intended).

I would have to say; codename: OutbreakIt's so old I can't play it anymore (new windows doesn't like the old 3d coding), but it was so awesome to play when it was released. I was one of the first games to have cooperative gameplay over internet, so I could play the missions with my brother. There really aren't enough cooperative games, so not being able to play this one is such an enormous waste.

I'm afraid I'll stick with what everyone is picking: Starcraft. It totally impacted the whole gaming community and... Never mind. How about this, how many PC game received four guineas book of world record awards. Created the starcraft professional competition. Plus this is still being played since 1998 by so many people That's the best PC game ever made but I'll stick with civilization IV thank you.

Deus Ex. Really though, I can only think of a handful of PC games I think have withstood the test of time. Few that still have features that were special.

Out of this World (A.K.A Another World) was one of my first games played on the pc and I still consider it to be one of the best games ever, how much of this is just nostalgia I can't truly say as I can't play the version I have anymore.

i would have to say supreme commander bacouse its got good graphics and quilty to the field of view and such and the game is good becouse there is always something new to find on gpgnet and you only need one disk to play it on a few 1000 PCs if you really wanted to but off of gpg net you can only play lane-line games that is vary good with the one CD thing its a vary cool and fun game

I think the Heroes of Might and Magic series needs to be considered as a contender. Excellent fantasy/strategy game with countless options and replayability.

The biggest spoiler ever for Final Fantasy. Don't read it unless you played them all. You will regret if you read it.

I'm only going with PC exclusives, but the best of those I've played is Team Fortress 2. It is also the best multiplayer shooter I've ever played.

I can't have one single favourite, so I'll name several: Cave Story: It's been a long, long time since a game knocked my socks off, like Cave Story did. It takes gameplay of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, with a healthy dose of Contra, and a surprisingly deep story. It's great, and it's free. You have no excuse to NOT play it. Amnesia: The Dark Descent: In a games industry that's seemingly forgotten how to make a truly scary game (aside from games like Ju-On: the Grudge, which is rife with dark rooms and cheap peek-a-boo scares), Amnesia is just an honestly scary game. The atmosphere this game has will seep into your very being, making something as simple as a door blowing open in the wind be scary. This, coupled with an awesome physics engine, and a cruel sanity meter akin to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. It's a horrifying game, with a twisted, intriguing story. And since it's an indie game, it's cheap, too! Touhou Project: I like how all my best games ever are indie games. Touhou Project is a game made entirely by one man, who goes by the pseudonym "ZUN". It follows the fantasy world of Gensokyo, and usually a shrine maiden battling bizarre, evil forces. It's a tough-as-nails shooter game, which just takes utter joy in filling every inch of the screen in insta-kill bullets. Playing the game even on normal difficulty is a rush, and I can't reccomend enough the game's thirteen odd titles to any SHMUP fan. Also this may be a more personal one, but I salute ZUN for having a game series with an all girl cast, and not going the Capcom route of filling female roles with utterly shameless fanservice. DOOM: See, I have one non-indie game here! I have to give DOOM tribute, since it's really what got FPS-ing off the ground (because seriously? Who really cares about Wolfenstein 3D?). A wide variety of weapons, an array of monsters to use them on, and a large series of huge levels make DOOM into just a pleasure to play.Surely you all have heard this before, so I'll elaborate by saying the BEST way to play DOOM: Skulltag. Skulltag is a source port of DOOM based off the zDOOM engine, giving DOOM a nice openGL filter, and many advanced features, allowing modders to make some of the biggest, baddest DOOM mods ever. Even the Vanilla multiplayer is a delight, with gameplay akin to Quake 3: Arena. New DM levels, gametype archtypes like CTF and Juggernaut, and even new weapons (a devestating minigun, a grenade launcher that bounces off walls, and the murderous BFG10k). Skulltag is just the best way to play DOOM, and I suggest you get it first after buying a copy of DOOM. Painkiller: Last but not least: Painkiller. Painkiller is a shooter game made in 2004, which was a sort of homage to older FPS' like Serious Sam and DOOM. And it is a wonderfully great homage: In the first ten minutes of the game, you'll literally be killing hundreds of monsters, while a wicked heavy-metal background music amplifies your carnage. The weapons also follow this formula, and are possibly the strangest, yet satisfying, in any FPS I have ever played. Use a RPG Rocket with a minigun attached to it, or a long-range railgun that nails monsters to walls with entire trees (which, perplexingly enough, has a grenade launcher attached to it), or even the good 'ol shotgun, which can also freeze monsters. It also has online gameplay, akin to good old DOOM deathmatching. I cannot stress this enough. Painkiller will be the most fun you'll have with your PC ever. Unless Serious Sam 3 ends up not sucking. Or you just don't know what fun is. EDIT:

I'm only going with PC exclusives, but the best of those I've played is Team Fortress 2. It is also the best multiplayer shooter I've ever played.

I'll give a good one to TF2 also, if only for Valve's awesome method of incorperating user content, benefitting both the game and the original creators. The extensive modding scene for Team Fortress is my absolute favourite thing about it

I see a few people here like Counter Strike. I still play that these days, Source that is, on Steam. I played WOW a bit, got up to level 6. I might get back into it again but it's kinda boring... To answer the original question, I suppose it's a tie between Counter Strike Source and Dungeon Defenders.

Counter Strike rules -- I used to have a bunch of guys over for a 8 hour Middle of the Night Lan Party to play Counter Strike. I liked the idea that you only get one life to play the round. Are there any other games nowadays that are like that? I hate playing FPS games where the other guy simply runs and guns and respawns.
