It's going to last for a long time because it has the biggest game library of any system so far. Just because of that it'll stay around for quite awhile.

The PS2 will never "die". They will just stop making games for it. But I know many people (like myself) will still be playing the PS2 once no more games will be made. Therefore, it won't die.

it will survive until ps3 gets better games since there arent so many good games 4 ps3 n it is expensive

This sounds about right to me.Although I'm not getting one til theyput the backwards compatibility back inthe Australian version.Keeping my Station stuff foreveri will become dead when PS3 falls to 300hunred dollars

lol, well considering im still playing my ps2 xbox and game cube and do not yet own a new system, it would probably depend on your definition of "dead". Im guessing that they will probably stop releasing game on ps2 within the next year and game stop(my local used game store) will stop selling them soon after that. It'll die when people stop buying it.Sony will support it if they can sell it. It's foolish not to. In a recession, picking up a $99 (new), $69 (used) console and buying any of hundreds of award winning games used from $3.99 to $14.99 is a little hard to pass up.Great games, low price, how can you argue with that?

This thread is probably old but oh well, here's my opinion.I believe it will die after this year.So dead date, 2010.For one reason, most games will not be made for it anymore.I know I'm going to be sad because this is the last Madden NFL for it.So that is my opinion.

I think it would take about 3~5 years before PS2 dies. I heard that PS3 is horrible as compared to PS2, so unless they fix whatever is wrong with PS3, no doubt PS2 would remain popular.

It's not dead yet. I've yet to finish the Persona games.But the ps2 section of EB or GameStop, or whatever... I visited a store without a ps2 section. Turns out they moved all the games to the same shelf as the PC games. It's gonna die soon... I'm gonna hold a funeral...

when you think about it they wouldn't be making games for it if they weren't selling like hot cakes and the reason that they are is because everybody sold or got rid of there ps2 for a new system so all the little kids who got the used ps2s are like mom dad games now so there you go.

I think that as long as ps3s aren't backwards compatible there will be people who have and regularly use their ps2. However the new games that are coming out aren't that great. So its slowly becoming less and less popular.

I don't think that it will ever really "die". I don't know if they have stopped making new games or not but I would be surprised if they make many more new ones. However, there are always those that are behind the times in terms of game consoles. I had a nintendo until I graduated High School and only recently go my own PS2. So I think there will always be people buying the system and games. I just doubt if any new content will come out.

The Ps2 will die slowly as more newer games are released for other systems. But the PS2 will always have a place in my heart or just in the back of my closet.

The PS2 lived a good life and still lives if not for the non-backwards compatible PS3s coming out. It's a great console and at least it didn't end up like the Dreamcast.
