In my opinion I would say either the NES or SNES.Contra, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Super Mario Bros, Megaman, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Double Dragon, Earthbound, Bionic Commando, and so many other great series to be played on the NES and SNES which for the most part originated on these consoles.Although there are some series that had original arcade counterparts such as Contra, Ninja Gaiden, and Double Dragon, however the home console versions of these titles have gained more popularity in being the most played and usually more enjoyable versions.

snes by far... the graphics were superior to any system at the time and held some of the most solid single player games ever

NES, they had the most third party support! Although alot of people are correct the Nes did also save the gaming industry, it also brought us our Mario, Link/Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid and cant forget the Ultimate, unbeatable, undsputed RPG of time! Final Fantasy! The SNES also had alot of thrid party support but carried on the legends of nintendo that we know of today!

The Gamecube is the best for one reason: it has Viewtiful Joe, my favorite game of all time.

DS, its greate fun with this pen, and i like handheld from Nintendo more than from Sony (there was some Q - something, but played on it once, and it really sucks).

I haven't played the DS (which looks amazing, btw), and it's too early to tell for the Wii, but not counting those... SNES. Hands down.

N64 best games ever made for that in virtual prowrestling

although i respect your opinion. i have to disagree with you the nintendo 64 had few good games ,but the supernintendo was a far more popular in sales and in harware then any other machine at that time, followed secondly by the sega genesis in one of the real first console wars.
