Game gear is still pretty good. My friends still keeps theirs and I play it sometimes.

As a portable system it was horrible because it took 6 batteries and lasted about 30 mins. It's great if you can use the ac adapter. I remember spending a lot of time playing Jurassic Park for it.

I had a Game Gear when I was younger and I loved playing Sonic 2 on it, and had a battery pack because buying all those batteries can get very costly when your allowance is only 5 dollars a week. I had a TV Tuner briefly, but only used it a few times then gave it to a cousin.

i have mine, still. it has the battery pack on the back of it, i just leave it plugged in when i play it, otherwise it lasts ~2 minutes. the game selection isn't that great, but oh well. it's basically a dumbed-down genesis that you can take with you. i still play sonic 2, super columns, batman, and streets of rage on it. games are ~$2 at the local game store, but they don't have much. check pawn shops, they usually have games for some reason.
