Showing a burning splinter and watching it burn well?Well that's how my teacher always says it so i say the same way.You just put a flame over the testtube and see what happens.As Oxygen supports burning it will burn very well.Sort of like a turbocharged flame

Umm... well yeah, I guess it's more or less correct.I mean, the way I've always known it is that you put a glowing splint into a test-tube and if it relights, oxygen is present. Which I guess is sort of what you suggested about oxygen supporting the burning and you did mention the splint which is what I was looking for. Hmm it could be either covalent or ionic when i look at the valencies.But since its nitrogen I'll just say it's Covalent.
