Someone is going to die tonight. I only read the first page, but I didn't see Dave Lombardo ANYWHERE! That man is not called the Grandfather of the double bass for nothing. His work for Slayer in Reign in Blood was foundational to all drum work from then on. This guy is a metal god! Also, some other tops are Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, and John Dolmayan of System of a Down also deserve some top spots.

PHIL COLLINS! LOL!! ahahahaNeil Peart and Mike Portnoy, seriously - and that guy from the Math/Prog rock group, Minus the Bear. A simple kit combined with almost 10+ time changes in a song is hard to pull off.

Thought this topic could use a bit of a revival. This is an age-old debate, but my vote goes out to Gene Hoglan. He may not be the best drummer around, but goddamn does he make one hell of a case for it. A lot of the drummers previously posted in this thread may have the skills, but certainly do not use them to the best of their potential. There's nothing like drumming in a metal band to be the true test of your skills. And regarding Entombed Machine's comment, I simply cannot believe that he didn't mention Dark Angel as one of Gene's bands. Dark Angel is the band he is most famous for is is by far the best out of all of his other bands (except for maybe Death). He currently hold the title for fastest drumming in a song, "The Burning of Sodom" at something like 285 beats per minute and every song he writes is brimming with technicality and mind-blowing talent.

The best drummer is probably Nick Genis from The Pillow-Heads. The way he drums is just hilarious
