The problem is that a lot of people are now buying HDTVs because everyone else is, without really knowing how to make proper use of them or their potential. My own mother and step-father are a great example of this. I have a 42" HDTV and they've always been rather jealous of it, so one day they were at the store and my step-father said, "Well, Jon has an HDTV and I'm tired of bumming on his couch to watch stuff on it, so let's buy our own." And they did; they bought a 32" HDTV with absolutely no clue about how to use it. They don't have digital cable or satellite (these are people who still pick up local channels with rabbit ears) and you'd be lucky if you could ask them what Blu-ray is and find their answer to be anything close to correct. There's a lot of people out there like this, especially of the older generations. And this isn't helped by the fact that stores like Best Buy and Circuit City and Wal-Mart will spout all kinds of gibberish to sell a TV, even if that gibberish is completely false information. So yeah, before Blu-ray's adoption rate grows anywhere near that of DVD, there needs to be way less confusion out there and companies will need to start really educating people about the benefits of high definition. And of course, the confusion of the format war itself didn't and still isn't helping Blu-ray's cause.

Yes, it's beaten HD-DVD already and will most likely keep moving upwards.

more major film companies signed with blu-ray 2, that helped the transition as well. more storage i think is what made the blu-ray the one to back..

The Blue-rays may not survive but the coating of the blue-rays that does not allow them to be scratched should be around as long as disc are used for movies and games.

From a gaming perspective Blu ray should servive because it is forcing people to buy real game. therefore increasing support from companies because it reduces fear of piracy. Yes the sales figures of blu ray are not as high as DVD disc per disc, but the revenue from blu ray is close enough to push companies towards investing more. It's the anti-piracy factor that keeping them in the market. Once the market has stabilise will we see Blu-ray R/RW and drives to write on Blu ray in our PCs.

Of course it is. It's just going to be a matter of time until we start to see cheaper prices once other companies start to manufacture them. Unfortunately right now Blu-Ray movies are still at high prices and unless you get them on sale you won't have the average Blu-Ray owner buying tons at a time. I only have one movie and I have a Blu-Ray player in my laptop apart from the PS3 and even I can't bring myself to go buy bundles of them.Prices will eventually go down just like previous formats. It all takes time.

well i read that kojima says that MGS4 is going to be too big for a blu-ray disk so it has to survive for the massive ps3 games to be made

As a video game medium, no. As a movie medium, yes.Do video game developers REALLY need 50 gigs of storage space? GTA4 on the 360 was on one disc and wasn't gimped.

of course, hddvd has already been phased out and Bluray is backed exclusively by a bunch of movie makers and by blockbuster which is huge. sure itll last until the industry switches do download only but thats not happenin any time soon

Well, I'm quite sure it has already been decided that Blue ray is the champ. I mean, come on, give sony it's peace there. Microsoft and their fat cats are all about money, and that's what happens with the xbox 360 and their hd-dvds

But imagine when you buy those big box set games with10 discs inside that include documentaries and special featuresand expansion packs and such. Now all you need is ONE disc. How much would that cut down on manufacturing costs? A lot.MGS 4 is on one disc by the way.. for anybody reading this thatthinks it's not. It's a massive game, taking up 4600mb (or around4.5 gig) memory space in your ps3.However, back to Blu-Ray: the war is over. It's decided. Hd-dvdis dead, leaving the contender, Blu-Ray the winner...... for now.

Blu-ray still has it's largest competitor - DVD. Blu-ray's monthly sales figures have to start drastically inching towards those of DVD before anyone can say with any kind of assurance whether or not Blu-ray will stay alive.

DVD is part of the past generation. In regards to the hi-defwar, Blu-Ray has won. It's like comparing apple pie toorange juice. They're both fruit-filled (play movies/games)but they're not in the same category.

It'll do fine. But as people have stated, I don't know anyone who has a Blue-ray player, since even my nongaming friends bought PS3s as their blue-ray players.

Yes! Its the only high-def disk out ... HD-DVD is no longer made, or well no studios are supporting it anymore its all on blu-ray and also to add, blu-ray will win beacuse there are millions of PS3 owners out there so companies already know its a good choice -Blu-Ray player prices are also going downnow so... BLU-RAY IS THE WAY TO GO...
