To be honest with you i was dissapointed when the corperate machine did in the HD-DVD market. I believe that the HD-DVD was a more cost effective high defintion movie. However lets face facts downloadable content is getting more and more popular and within 5 years blue rays will more then likely be overshadowed by newer more convient micro hard disk tech i mean 8 gig sticks for the psp is the ShIzNeTz!

Honestly what is the point of asking the question. It was pretty obvious from the start that blu-ray had the edge over dvd and hd-dvd. Also hd-dvd was the one that didnt survive in the end, because blu-ray was superior in every aspect of entertainment

Well, it's a little early to tell, but I'm sure it'll survive. I mean, once the price is lowered, it'll be the new DVD.

I think it will survive, but the prices have to fall so far before it will be really accepted... the data limits justify the upgrade, but not at the prices they expect for the players, or what's more, the movies.

Well considering Blu Ray is currently the best selling form of DVDs and it won the format war with HD DVD, I am pretty sure it will be around. You also have to take into consideration the growing popularity of HD TVs and the stupidity of most people. When they are told they "need" something because it is the best, it stands to reason to think that they (especially American's) will go out and buy it in droves.

From what I have heard about the Blu-Ray vs DVD sales, the Blu-Ray is winning? Well I really hope Blu-Ray lives on. I being a PS3 owner are wanting games to be on a Blu-Ray disk. This means more memory for better games, and more space for extras. In general I DO think that Blu-Ray will survive because of the fact of it being better than a DVD disk and everyway, and SONY has made it famous - Now movies are coming onto Blu-Ray disks for the more feeled graphics.

its tough to say right now dvd is going strong and is very cheap at walmart...blu ray won the format war but will not really take off until hdtv becomes mainstream because without an hdtv in your house there is no reason to own blu ray also blu ray dvds are very expensive and its unnecessary

As far as Blu-Ray goes for High Definition movies, it is the only game in town. HD-DVD was dropped, and I don't think that another affordable format is being brought up anytime soon. So if you want to watch a High Definition movie, you need a Blu-Ray player to do so. There is a market for Blu-Ray in some other cases as well. For example, if I wanted to back up my 40GB hard drive, I could do that with a single dual layer Blu-Ray disc. Though optical drive technology is insufficient for backup of large systems, it could be used for some older systems like my own.
