I pretty much read other fanfiction and write something that is my own. I don't like being surrounded by my own ideas all the time.

I read fanfiction when my internet gets laggy and I have nothing to do. I mostly hate fanfiction in general, but there are a few good writers out there that make it worthwhile. I've attempted writing fanfiction several times, but I usually just get lazy half way and stop writing x3

I used to read a lot of fan fiction of harry potter before book 5 came out and there were some works that were excellent. Now days I just read proper books instead, but from time to time I read a few of my friends fanfiction stories which are fun.

I read, and write it. I haven't written one in a while though, and I have to be inspired by the story, manga, anime(etc) before I can write, but as stated I usually read more than I write.

I used to write a lot of fanfiction, actually. You're right that it gives you sort of... a framework for learning to write your own. And good fanfiction is very difficult to come across, I always felt. It's difficult to come across someone who manages to not only capture the original essence of the characters, but give them more depth than what you see in the presented material. (Though I'm generalizing - some books/shows/etc do a beautiful job of exploring a character.)I never really read much, just because it's so easily done poorly.

I love writing fanfiction. I like to read fanfics too, but I have to agree with what pretty much everyone here has said about good fanfiction being hard to find. This is especially true if you look for it at places like FF.net.

So true. As aregular at the site, it's a pain trying to look for really decent fanfiction. I am a reader and writer of fanfiction but thankfully, I seem to be churning out great stories according to my readers. I personally try to avoid the stories made by hormone-riding teenage girls.

I've both written and read the stuff for about 14 years now (I'm ancient in internet years). I was writing it before I knew there was a term to describe just what it was. I dropped out of writing it for a few years, but I've recently picked it back up again.

Depends completely on the author. Some put a lot of time into their work and capture the magic as it were perfectly. Most can't write for @#$%

agreed. i cant read my friend's fanfic's tho.... mostly cuz i dont wanna tell them i think they suck -_-

I read fanfiction on an almost daily basis, the gaps in my reading exist only because of school work. My current fandom is Harry Potter and Naruto. I used to write fanfiction too, but then after quite a long time of having writer's block, I just dropped my fanfic. I posted it at fanfiction.net; a Naruto fanfic entitled Re:Birth Itakitty. At that time, I was really devastated when Itachi died so i wrote this as a 'What if he lived...?' sort of fic. Catch is, he got turned into a cat.I like reading fanfiction because it gives you a means to, well, fantasize about the things that you wanted to happen in the series. And usually, I read anime, game or book-based fanfiction as these three media types are, for me, flexible; you can easily imagine the characters doing and saying whatever it is you want them to without having the face of an actor or actress coming to mind, which I think serves as a distraction. :P)

I used to write fanfics and fanfic/poetry things a lot, but now I'm strictly a reader. My main fandoms are Harry Potter, Naruto, and Bleach, though I used to read loads and loads of Yu-Gi-Oh stuff. I'm also an on-and-off fanfic beta, and lately that's been for Harry Potter and Naruto.

Fanfiction writing is more likable than having my own characters some times because they actually have a setting and characterisation already. Though the writing does progress the development of how I view the characters and more toward the directions I want them to acquit to their own resolutions and how they inevitably end up in my book.Though lately, I have been prone to just reading fanfiction and jotting down on my previous hiatus ideas for my book.

I don't write fanfiction, but I do occasionally read it. There are just so many bad fanfics out there that finding one to read can be really frustrating though.. Fanfiction.net needs some sort of rating system.. seriously.

Hehehe... I read soo much fanfiction; it's taken place of some of my book reading time. Just have to go to the right place for the good stuff.I would love to write it, but writing and I just don't match.
