I think because of all the advertising being done. By advertising i mean all the shows and series.However for enjoyment I think it's because in a series of competition and training to get better and better.

Pokemon games are cool because they are Filled with cool looking monsters and it is turn based so you can play it no matter how intoxicated you are because nothing happens too fast.

Because pokemon rules and is really addicitve and can keep you hooked for hours but it can get boring

It is because of when we were little kids we were into that and thenthey made a game that was very good for our age and the game just kind of followed us into our older age.

pokemon is NOT like zelda. not one bit. i cant even think of a simmalarity.and i think people get them because they want to know what that one is like, find out why its better or worse.It is awsome because you battle and it is kinda like zelda style.

1) like already mentioned - advertising2) original game, cant be classified easily (its not a pure RPG)3) easy interface, long playability, some advanced game features which dont complicate gameplay4) friendly rules, no frustrating moments (if u have some problems theyre still easy to solve 
like if u chose charmander and cant beat gym w/ water pokemons - you go back, catch other pokemon [eg. famous pikachu] and lvl it up)And who doesn't know famous "gotta catch 'em all"?

It is one of the best strategy games out there, I dont see it's extreme popularity that strange.

I like them because you can walk, surf, fly, etc. and also battle people easily later on. And Ranger stinks because winning battles is mostly luck, with a little bit of skill if you use Poke Assists. Mystery Dungeon was okay, except there was only one town.also, I completely beat FireRed, there is nothing else to do besides leveling up Pokemon. I completed my National Dex in about 325 hours. (I DID NOT CHEAT, I MEAN IT) After doing that, I went and talked to professor Oak. He just thanked me... a lot. And didn't give me squat. All that work, and no reward other than Oak thanking me and getting some stupid message saying "Given to the player for completing their National Pokedex." Oh, and I got all of them, including Celebi, Mew, Jirachi, etc. I didn't cheat, I just know some people who do. And I know how to clone in Emerald.

i say mystery dungeon was a good addition to a very long, very boring series. they needed a game like mystery dungeon.

i suppose it so big cos of the amount of things you can do in it. you could, theoretically keep playing it forever. id get a bit boring but hey. plus its got so many pokemon in it and it needs to have all the needed info in the game. and then they keep adding stuff into it so its obviously gonna get bigger.

man, the pokemon now are so wack. groudon? what the hell is that? at least the first games had pokemon like pikachu and ekans, actual animals.
