I've played Age of epmpires 1 and 2 and the expansion pack for 2.Single player is fun including the random skirmish battles, but I mainly like the LAN network played. If you have friends which are good at AoE II then it will surely test you strategic ability

Age of mythology is my favorite. Mythology has always been one of my favorite history subjects. AoE2 use to be my fav until I discovered AoM. I didn't dig AoE3 at all. Maybe I just didn't enjoy the setting too much. It just seemed so limited by the time period. I just don't enjoy american history. ( I should try the asian dynasty xpack i think). Although I thought the extra stuff like cards and abilities were a cool idea . I wish they would carry that over to make a new version of AoE2 or AoM with the new rulesets or even a ww1/ww2 era version. ( I know ww2 is so overdone, but I find those games the most fun). Age games are so well made that I think if they tried to do a ww2 one, they could possibly make the best one yet.

i love AoE, i had my AoE 1 & 2 from my uncle, and i bought AoE 3 and the expansions, its a really great series

AoE 1 and 2 were really good. I think 1 was better than 2 in a few ways, but that's maybe becoz of the lag from 2 from my old computer back then. I have played Age of Mythology, but was sort of disappointed. The time it took to win was much longer IMO, but thats maybe becoz I'm terrible at AoM.

age 3 is the best, age 1 and 2 were poor. But in the third version there's no lasermans...using the cheats

Aoe III is the best of the 3, followed by 1, then 2. dont play 2

I must've played AoE 1 back when I was 7 or 8...didn't understand so I naturally got owned...Then I got into AoE 2 in middle school and it was awesome...still play it time to time now~o.0AoE 3...saw it played at my friend's and didn't quite get it...looks like it's worth a try but I never got around to buying it...Rise of Nations...bought it, never got really into it...used cheats a lot since sometimes it was just too slow/boring~AoE 2 is the classic, best AoE by far, thanks~

Age of Empires support more units but lack micro-management support. However, I like it because it is actually a strategy game instead of a tactical game. I don't like 1 that much though because the graphics are bad and units move slowly.

I've been reading the comments, and it seems to me like a lot of people are just writing things like, "i lik 1, 2 suked, 3 is prety bad" (not necessarily in that preference), or "i give it approximately an exact 6.19834"...for what reasons? The things that make these topics interesting is reading why people like them or not, a two-year-old could say, "I like" or "I don't like."Anyways, enough of my ramblings. I kinda got annoyed while reading some of the other posts. Personally, I like AoE II the best. The first I think it was a good try by ES, but I really didn't like the graphics. I haven't played it in a long time, but I remember the units being bigger than some of the buildings.I never liked the interface and objectives of the third.I don't understand some comments where people say there is no micromanagement involved. I play competitively against friends and other people, and it gets pretty intense. As an example of how much micromanagement is involved, messing up one step in your own build order can result in a loss. And.. my favorite part, is that 2v2s with my friends can last over 5 hours. Another thing I like about Age of Empires II, is that there are so many civilizations compared to other games, such as Starcraft.

I've got Age of Empires III (with War Chiefs & Asian Dynasties), Age Of Mythology (with Titans), and Age Of Empires II. They were all great, though I did like AoM the best, they need to remake it or make a new expansion haha.

I've played I and II (Age of Kings). It was pretty much my first RTS, so I'm personally quite fond of it... I unfortunately can't come up with too much of a reasoned explanation for this (partially because I haven't played it in a very long time). I always liked AoE II's campaigns, and while I never had a decent internet connection during the days when I was actually good at the game, I had more than enough fun just playing by myself, introvert that I am.While I can't contribute much of value here, I'd like to thank the person who started this thread... This just reminded me that I've got the game sitting on my shelf, and it would be fun to revisit it.

I played AoE II and III, but in my opinion, they aren't as good as Empire Earth.

They're great because it's real civs from history fighting each other. I would have never known what a Culverin was unless I played this.

I have played them since AoE I, they are all good, nut AoE II and the expasion are the best.

AoE 3 initially sucked actually... Too few civilizations. >_< Now it's better though, with the expansions... Anyway, I like AoE 2 better

Age of Empires was pretty fun, the new Asian Dynasty one was also great to play.
