Its the same as all the other time-limit battle systems, except you can freely move around. I think it's great. X and XII both have great combat systems.

The battle system is decent. But overall I find the battle system in X-2 to be the best of all FFs.

i like the new battle system because is way faster than the classic, in XII battle system i can choose whoever i wanna battle!! But this system becomes very independent with the gambits!! But in general the games is great, with great bestiary, great magicks and a good story about conspiration, the only thing i dont like is the lack of alternative bosses!!

This battle system makes the game to easy in which you just need to run and let your members attack. Made the game way to easy

I played FFXII for about 30 hours, then just kind of stopped playing it from time constraints. I deleted my old file and decided to start up again because I don't really remember much in the story. The battle system is definitely different from the other FFs and that is probably why it feels so foreign. I really don't like the idea of being able to only fully control one member at a time. It seems to me that they wanted to make it more of an MMO feel with you only controlling the one person.

the battle system is not good. it does not suit the game. it's more suitable for an online game. they should bring back the classic battle system.

greenlanternmike: You can have the game pause when you open a menu, so you can still control all of your characters fully, if you so desire. As far as I can see, gambits just mean I don't get RSI from pressing X over and over.

well, the battle system is like real time, but if u play it right, it still has all the elements of the turn based system. still tho, it doesnt feel exactly right...but i think its a lil more of a hit than miss.i think i read that square believes that real time battles is the future of rpg's, so ya bettah get used to it hehee.

I think it threw off all the final fantasy games, because I stopped playing it because of the battle system

i like the battle system but it has flaws, and lacks some gambits (like enemy not yet successfully atacked with ... [steal, etc])anything that makes battles automatic in rpgs is a great adition, specially in ff games where most fights are just fight -> fight -> fight till your thumbs breakwhat i didnt like whas that gambits were to be sold, and limited to your progression in the game, ff12 is poorly balanced and this is one of the many reasons

I knew that you were able to control other members of your party, it just feels like the battles get broken up whenever you have to pause just to control somebody else.

It's okay. I like it because it takes away random battles, but the gambit system also plays the game for you.

Well, I see how they had to come up with something like that to give the series a sense of innovation, but I got completely sick of it after a mere 10 hours. It looked like it was a new action-like FF at first, but now I realize it's even less an active system than the old turn-based routine. Plus, all my characters are the same. Pretty sure Square-Enix is reserving the glorious job system for it's MMO money-makers. They're evil.

I like both, the new and the old one. Also the one that occurs in the FF Tactic games XD Always something different, but not bad. Yeah, if you want to control every character, do so. But I'm too lazy and let my gambits work <3
