In my experiance.. Just from seeing my friend.. He has a 360, NDS, PS2, and a PS3. There are a WHOLE bunch of PS3 games that are coming out for the 360, as I am sure most of you people know. He has a LOT of games for all of the systems, sans the PS3. He plays his 360/PS2 more than his PS3. That being said, he just got layed off from his job where he made a TON of money. So he DOES have nothing but time.. but.. He always hits up a game, gets about 75% the way through, then it collects dust. Some games he bought he has never even touched yet. So, in a way, yes, it is a big waste of money, even if you do have the time. Maybe he is just an extreme example. Me personally, I have all the previous gen (GC, PS2, Xbox) and a DS. I am quite content with the games out for the PS2. None of the next gen do anything for me. So.. In my opinion.. Wait till 3-4 games come out that you want.. then pick up a system. Then it will be worth it all.

i think it's better to have all of them but it'll cost too much to own all the games... on the good side is that you'll never be out of the loop. and on the downside it maybe too many games you won't know what to play first

It would be better to just have 1. the best one then u can laugh at other peeps consoles. Plus you would be able compare graphics to other peeps consoles and u dont have to be greedy!

As a collector myself I can say he plays none of those games. And why would he, 99% of everything he owns is garbage I'm sure, that's how collections work. It isn't about quality it's only about amount.

To get all of them seem to a very expensive hobby, but having a selection of consoles never hurt nobody. I guess it's about how much you want to play and what games you want to play. Most of the time I base my console purchases on what games that are available then anything else.

I would like for there to be one. Except the games I like are spread out among the different systems, so I would prefer more systems so I can play all the games i like.

Here's the opinion of a collector:The main reason to keep the old systems is if you have games for each of them you are addicted to and you would like to play them over and over again for years to come, you don't have to regret selling them. All of the game systems have bad games for them (except maybe for the Neo Geo AES/CD; I haven't found a Neo Geo game that I didn't like yet) so it is best to focus on building smaller libraries of good games for each system. When it comes down to systems with small or poor libraries (RCA Studio II, Tiger game.com, Philips CD-i) the main justification for these is the humor you will get out of them as well as the few "ok" games that they have. CD-i does have an alright take on Tetris as well as a generic sidescrolling beat 'em up called Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam that actually ended up having many long levels. It also depends on your playing style. If you play games that only take an hour to beat such as Donkey Kong Country for Super Nintendo, chances are you are going to easily have time to play that good game again at some point in your life. Original Atari games go on until you lose about less than 5-10 minutes through them, but that gets you playing them hundreds of times. As far as current generation gaming goes, people with short attention spans like to play a ways into one game and save it, then pop in a different game. Having the three different systems allows you to have variety. Wii with its Nintendo character franchises and sports, Xbox 360 with its shooters and racing, and PS3 with its RPGs and platformers.

I don't think it's a waste to have a variety of gaming systems, it gives you much more choice and options for what you want. For instance I have a PS2/3, a 360 and a gaming PC so I can play anything for those devices but I can't play stuff for the Wii, so I miss out on any (not much) content for that system.

not really a waste ^^ in some cases having the system is the only way to still enjoy the game. gamecube, ps2, ps1, i've not figured out how to emulate those yet so i still have the consoles. that and i'm a bit of a collector so its fun to have as many systems as i can get my hands on :) who knows, if i ever get crazy enough, i'll either throw every system i can into one case, or figure out how to emulate every single one so the originals don't get any use damage and can be preserverd, whle whatever super computer manages to emulate them all gets all the usage :(

As poor as this answer is. I have to agree with it.That's why i don't have very many systems, because i don't have the money for new ones :awesome:

I strongly feel that you need all (or at least more than one) system. Because if you're stuck with one, then you're closing yourself off from a vast majority of games. Many systems have strong and weak suits. And also have games that are exclusive to their system, and having one, you are going to miss out. I am confident that I have nearly every video game system, and if I don't own them, I have good access to them, through a friend. I am very greatful that my dad is a big gamer.Get some variety

I think it depends on context. Whats the point of buying an Xbox 360 and a PS3 at the same time? There isnt any! It is ok to collect them over the years. I have pretty much the WHOLE nintendo collection, from the good ol' GameBoy Classic, right up to the 3DS. It works like this, because the older games can't be played on the newer systems... Sometimes modern gaming just doesnt float my boat and i have to go back to good old 'mini-bit' games! XD

Lol, gotta catch 'em all. Wish I had the money for 'em, though... oh well, that's what a PC and emulators are for. That's why we're here, eh? *wink, wink*
