I would say the Silent Hill games. And Ocarina of Time. I mean, Castle Town is full of zombies that paralyze you and then rape you. Rape zombies. Created specifically for that purpose ONLY.

The one that scared me the most was the first Resident Evil just because it was like none other at the time and the dogs howling in the surrond sound system when i first got that too add to it.But in general Fatal Frame was up there too because waiting for things to pop out at you seemed to keep me on my toes too

I am with you on that one. I played it even though it was a demo and it still scared me. Now I want to look at all the pictures I take just to make sure nothing is there.

I love Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Sweet Home and the like, but the freakiest game I know is Clock Tower. In all these other games, they give you a way to fight off the antagonist. In Clock Tower, your only option is to hide and hope for the best. I can't tell you how many times I'd be running along and smack right into Scissorman, or hide, say, under the bed and hope he lost me, only to see him impale me through the damn bed.

Without actually taking my original post back, I have an addendum:The Kemco-Seika text adventure games for NES were really creepy. Shadowgate, and especially Uninvited left little to the imagination as far as descriptives go. You knew exactly how, and how horribly, you died, and without accompanying graphics, these walls of text describing your death were left to the imagination, where I imagine it's far creepier than any game developer's concept art.

Besides Silent Hill and things like that, I would have to say Giygas from Earthbound was pretty disturbing.

Scooby Doo for the SNES freaked me out when I first played it. Everytime one of those pirate dudes showed up out of nowhere I almost crapped myself. Also, Marble Madness was a pretty freaky game. What was up with those green worm lookin' things that tried to eat you. Total insanity.

I agree with most of what everyone has already said (especially the Ravenholm part of HL2), but a game that I haven't seen on here: Bioshock. Had some pretty scary parts.

I'd have to agree with the original clocktower crowd on this one. Although I can also admit that Ocarina of Times bottom of the well, creeped me out (despite silent hill barely phasing me.) And when I was little the end of the second level of Castlevania, scared me enough to turn the game off.

Scariest game would have to be Zork Nemesis (an old PC game). Sometimes you open a door and it makes a weird noise, or you enter a room and really strange sounds occur. The in-game puzzles are really good and sometimes can keep people on their toes, and they have a lot of mystery to them til you solve them and move to the next.
