Nesticle was my first emulator. It took me about a year to figure out what the icon for that was.

My first emulator would have to be Nesticle and I was quite delighted of how darn good it ran too (I had a Pentium 75 at the time). I pretty much went seeking out rom pages and such, but being inexperienced at searching and not have very many places like Dgemu and Romnation around, it was difficult.ON THE SIDE:I also came across genecyst at about the same time too and THAT ran well (just maybe a tad slower and the GUI looked very similar to Nesticle). Then there was the SNES. There was neither any Zsnes nor Snes9x. The only decent emulators (decent as in actually "working") were all shareware (remember SMW anyone) and of course ran at about 1fps just to closed after 30 minutes until you bought it (gee I wonder how much gameply I could get in 30 minutes at 1 fps  and I wonder WHY anyone would burn their money on this garbage).

SNES from a friend from school who just "magically" presented me with a disc and ask me to see what I think of it. Not knowing what it was I tried it out and it literally screwed me over as I didn't know how to work an emulator. After a few frustrating weeks I finally was playing the best (IMO) SNES game Tales of Phantasia.
