i know how to clone in gold/silver, and it works in rby versions but harder. first, save, then deposit a poke into box. go to the box switcher and switch boxes. the game will prompt you to save, so do so. rite when it says "saving..." turn off the power. im not sure though, cause it works in various parts of the "saving dont turn off the power" message. when u turn on the game again, you will have either the pokemon u deposited in the box u deposited it in and in ur party or deleted the pokemon, so use at ur own risk. this also duplicates any item your pokemon was holding, like master ball. ive tried it once in rby so it works. you can use this to get all 3 starters (useless in yellow). first, start new game, get ur starter, yadda yadda, get pokeballs, yadda yadda, and catch a poke. (reason: u cant deposit if u have only one poke) do the trick and restart game. open new game and withdraw the starter. it will be in box. repeat the steps, (you want all 3 starters rite? you cant just deposit one!) and deposit the two. get your last starter from prof. and withdraw two starters. u now have all 3 starters. i dont reccomend this because its hard to train all 3 starters. also, the two you withdraw arent recorded in pokedex and are treated like traded poke, so wont listen as well.

cloning pokemon is a way that most gamers do to get multiple version of the same pokemon, usually it is a one time only pokemon. I believe that in Gold/Silver/Crystal, you can clone all pokemon except for a porygon. I once try to clone my porygon, and the only thing that happen is that its data was erased from my pokedex. The pokedex did say that the porygon data is copyrighted, I never thought that it was serious. I just wanted to have both a porygon and a porygon2.

That really happened? That's really weird... Is it just a glitch? Hopefully, it works next time.

You could do ll that. Or just borrow an action replay from a friend if your using gameboy advance or ds. I borrow a friends action replay to clone for diamond.

Ya, but only to clone the items they were holding. You could do it in any PKMN game that saved when changing boxes, although it just takes up space in R/B/Y unless you want to have an unstoppable Mewtwo army.

Clone pokemon? What's the point of that when you can catch the same pokemon over and over? Of course, they'll have different stats, but come on, unless you're talking about cloning legendary (which, you probably are), there's nothing to it....But why would you want to have the same type of pokemon?

I have only been able to clone 3rd gen pokemon. The only reason I clone is so that I can get more items and do a special EV Training method. I think you can't clone anything after the 3rd gen.
