I would also say Tales of Symphonia, I loved that game. I beat it twice, Raine is by far the most useful character in that game.

Zelda IS an RPG.RPG:Role Playing GameYou're role playing as Link, and you're on an adventure, so shouldn't it be classified as an RPG?Anyways, I don't know... I heard baitan kaitos and tales of symphonia was good, but tales of phantasia got kinda boring so I didn't know whether i should play phantasia or not

Tales of Symphonia is a beautiful RPG, and much better than otehr tales series (a fter Phantasya on Snes, that is quite the Big one ), sidequests, characters, graphics, everything is well balanced. There are still levels of difficulty to add more complexity to the game. The cell shading is worthy on ToS, and even with bugs on terms of graphics is superior to the ToS PS2 got after the tales fans begged for one on Sony sistem. Paper mario 2 is a great RPG also, the fact you laugh a lot with that game is something you must consider, even if is a light heart RPG.

I only have Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos and I hate them both. BK is marginally better, it would be a potentially great game if it didn't feel so cheap and heartless, whereas ToS is just bland and lacking in any depth whatsoever, I can't say enough bad things about that game but heres a few:Childish, ultra basic cartoon story (yes, cartoon, it's not even at the anime level of storytelling).Childish, ultra basic cartoon graphics.Chidlish, completely unbearable voice acting that is see through to the point of me not being able to EVER shake the sight of a bunch of bored kids reading lines they couldn't care less about in some room in front of a microphone.A battle system that collapses in on itself after an hour because the direct input approach lacks any real tactical depth, it becomes a button mash fest where the most complicated and thoughtful things will ever get is A: switching off skills that won't work and B: telling members to behave a certain way, which the AI will happily ignore. Oh, and you can prompt skills to be used at will, other than that you spam two buttons.Dungeons that are tedious beyond words, block puzzles, repeated iterations of exactly the same type of dungeon (read:ranches) that just get more maze like and boring.Crap repetitive music that will haunt you for the rest of your days and induce retching upon ever hearing it again.Promised anime scenes that occur twice, both at the end of the game, and total less than about two minutes, no matter how pretty they are (well, one is, and it's about the only good moment in the entire game).Oh, did I mention the painfully cheesy dialogue that constantly bombards you? K, people seem to not mind being constantly told "goodness and love will always win!" and such like. What's most insulting is that the game tries to mask those "moral of the story" teachings with characters going "ewww so corny!" and then keep repeating them anyway, as if Namco are trying to sugar coat little lessons they want us to learn.I had the DC version of SoAL a while back and remember not being that blown away but getting into it nontheless, I miss it a lot now though and think that's maybe the sign of a game you really like.

Baten Kaitos 2 had a great story IMO and good battle system. I liked ToS' battle system more, but the story was pretty cheesy. I'd say BK2.

In my opinion, the two best RPGs are Tales of Symphonia and Fire Emblem PoR.

I'd go with Fire Emblem. But if you're talking traditional RPG as opposed to tactical RPG, then I would say Tales.

I agree with pretty much everything Benjiroo said, though I did quite like Tales of Symphonia. I played it with the sound off, while listening to something else, because yes, the voice acting and music isn't that good, and the battle system, while more interesting than some, can get annoying and boring if all you use is Lloyd... yes, you CAN switch to other characters... but on the whole, it's a solid RPG. Skies of Arcadia was good, too, though I thought battles took way too long, especially ship battles. I've never played Baten Kaitos, though it being one of those "card-user" games, it never interested me. I've never played Paper Mario 2, though the original Paper Mario was mediocre at best (even though it was a nice distraction for a few days), so I don't know if it would be THAT good. The problem, as I see it, is that the GameCube doesn't really have a very good RPG selection, and neither did the N64. Oh, to return to the glory days of the SNES... but that's exactly what emulation is for, isn't it? :P
