I normally play as a warrior, I prefer the sword-first technique with speed and attack...and in an answer to your title, which I answered straight away...In an RPG, I like...-Detailed character customisation, but not too deep. I like making my character personal to me but I don't want to fine tune their shoelaces with powers or anything -Not too much guesswork, but enough to make you feel like you're making your own progress. Games where I have to search for hours get boring for me.-Diverse characters with their own flaws, interesting enough to be likeable. I don't like generic animé haired man number 1 with the sword to save the universe, I prefer something more along the lines of Ness (earthbound) and co.-An ENTERTAINING battle system. Turn based gets boring after a long time, there's no denying it. The Mario Superstar Saga got turn based perfect with your interaction and etc.-Music to fit the scenery... Easier said than done I suppose.-On the DS, I love 3D backgrounds and detailed sprite characters. I don't really know why, just makes it feel more "gamey".

I would want to be a brave (from the Fire emblem series)they have strong strength and defence (and also really fast- dodges most of enemies attacks)the characters mass is bigger meaning you can wield heavier and powerful weapons!they are unstoppable!

Mages are my first choice as long as the game has a ton of cool spells and stuff. Then Warriors because they are always leading and never have to run. I always play as a Mage in D&D. :D

I'd usually pick the wizard or some sort of MP user simply because their moves look so much better with effects. And more often than not they would have minor healing abilities as well so that's a plus.

my problem with chosing characters is that im not very broad minded, i tend to always lean towards a warrior class but the gameplay tends to always be boring and not require much strategy, my main reasons for being a warrior is that it requires little to no mp for attacks and you get up close and personal in combat.Although im always jealous of a mages ability, especialy in mmorpgs

I usually start as a Warrior type, then go back as a magic user. In action games, however, I generally prefer the more nimble character who usually has a less powerful attack.
