Mat Kearney. I've been trying for over a year to get my friends into him, and I've been making slow progress. He's starting to break into mainstream, but people tend to gravitate towards the ones that aren't so unique. I could try to talk about his style, but it's so different. He mixes acoustic, piano, electric, various instruments and rap. It's a blend of acoustic and hip hop. You can't really put his songs into a genre, it's very distinctly him. However, the songs they have been starting to play on the radio are usually the ones without rap. Crashing Down and Nothing Left to Lose. However, some of my personal favorites are the ones where he does rap. Plus, his rap, it's so different from normal hip hop rap. He doesn't rap about nothing or banging girls who do him right. He talks about real life, real struggles. And the way he says it, you know he's put a lot of thought into what he's saying. Not only that, he's an amazing poet, writer. In his song Bullet, every line the verse rhymes with every other line in that verse. It's amazing. I mean when's the last time I heard a rapper talk about the impact of Hurricane Katrina on a family? Mat's song All I Need is about that, all they have left is each other. You don't get it at first, but when you hear it more, you start to see it. It's amazing how much substance is actually woven into his songs.

noone listens to Third Eye Blind anymore! i love their music, great lyrics with a good singer and catchy songs that don't come off annoying.also i like Citizen Cope.. no one's heard of him either. think R&B plus a little rap plus some hip hop and throw in a whole bunch of blues and you have Citizen Cope. definately worth a listen :]

Ska. No one likes ska anymore. Especially none of my friends.

Ska is not even real. The only band that claimed to be Ska was Smash Mouth and they were just Pop-Punk.

I remember explaining that I listened to opera a while back, but this time I have other musical tastes that I know none of my friends listen to...such as the old Big Band and Swing from the 1930s and 40s, and the Easy-Listening standards from the same period up through today. I listened to music like that since I was a little girl, and I still listen to it today...to such an extent that I've considered pursuing a singing career with that type of music incorporated with other styles, such as old Latin Jazz and blues. My friends normally listen to rock, hip-hop, and Top 40.

Hm, maybe some early Madonna or Pet Shop Boys. I listen to so many different kinds of music (250ish albums on my iPhone) and none of my friends really have an intrest in music. I'm what they call an "all-eater" which more or less means I listen to anything as long as I don't get a headache from it.Still trying to figure out how Pink Floyde became such an "icon"..

Music composed by Yoko Kanno, almost all her lyrics are made up language so I doubt anyone from my friends would listen but the rythm and melody were very soothing.

I mainly listen to metal and its various subgenres + some other random ****. I have a pretty varied musical taste. I'd say the general population wouldn't have heard of 80% of the bands I listen to despite them being relatively big in their "scenes".

Protomen, Monomate, Circus Bogus, Hemmit, Off With Their Heads.

Ska is not even real. The only band that claimed to be Ska was Smash Mouth and they were just Pop-Punk.

Are you kidding me? You obviously don't know anything about ska. And Smash Mouth wasn't pop punk, they were POP.Ska goes all the way back to the 60s, buddy. It started in Jamaica, and eventually became popular in the UK, with bands like Madness. The craze spread to the US, and bands like Fishbone formed. By the 90s, ska was HUGE. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish are some of the most popular ska bands of that time, but there were countless ska bands. Please do some research before you make some idiotic comment like that. You have no idea how angry that made me.

I am in love with Our Lady Peace :) a good old Canadian band! i just saw them live this last summer front row and almost centre plus i to to meet them.... my friends just don't understand my obsession with them....But something most of my friends never listen to is anything done by Vocaloid series....OMG i can't believe how addicted i am to the songs on youtube! I can't believe on some songs( the ones my Miku mainly) sound like they're sung my a real person....just blows my mindBut alot of people like creating freaky high pitched music thats really lovely or then music that has a story line thats really compelling about the characters.Vocaloid is something that is COMPLETELY fan based :haha: and its alot of fun to see what those talented fans come up with next :?:but ya...my friends would jsut look at me weird if they knew i listened to vocaloid....they just don't understand

I really like this Dutch band called Mew. I think they're so amazing because of the very odd drumbeats and of the singer's unique high voice. I really like the song, "RepeaterBeater." It's so intense and emotional. :haha: A lot more of their songs are pretty amazing. Haunting, indeed!

everybody i hang with listens to rap. and don't get me wrong i love rap. i been jamming to rap ever since i was in kindergarten no lie. but i love all kindsa music and people who know me and my style are often shocked to see me listen to smooth, relaxing piano pieces. i enjoy classical music and piano melodies. i like chillin on some danny wright, a real good pianist, or nobuo uematsu, who everybody knows as the final fantasy composer. ay, i got an eclectic taste of music. can't hate
