As a technician for a store, I've seen many different views from clients upon their choice of operating systems, and many of them share an idea that Vista is the worse piece of operating system in existence. At this stage, Vista is only going through the same path as XP (Remember back in the days where everyone hated XP and wanted to stay with 98?).Vista isn't the perfect operating system, but it shouldn't deserve all the bashing it's getting.Vista does take more memory, but in revenge, its memory management is more efficient than its counterpart on XP.Vista being slower than XP is only but a myth. I own multiple systems at home, mostly on Vista, many on XP, and few on 2000. My Vista machines have been running as fast, if not, sometimes even faster and more stable than my XP systems (noting that this is a comparison on both 32-bit systems, comparing vs a 64-bit system wouldn't be fair)The annoyance of Vista always nagging when doing tasks (User Access Control) can easily be turned off.Statistically speaking amongst the machines coming back for repairs at my store, virus breakouts on XP machines have been alot more prominent than Vista machines (clients running freeware anti-viruses such as AVG)I personally am running 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate licenses on all my machines that are capable of 64-bit management, and I can stand happy with the performance and stability it offers. I'm just awaiting the release of SP2 for Vista to correct the few issues it has as of now.

Vista has been good for me, it runs really fast, I find it alot faster than XP. My loading time form boot selection is about 15 seconds which is amazing and akk my progarms work really well now. At first I had some problems but there all gone now.

If you have a duo/quad processor, they'd be of the same speed and Vista might even run a bit faster if it's got less software installed on it. But comparing fresh installations, XP is way faster. I remember when I first installed XP, it took about 6-8 secs to start up (I had a P4 1.9 GHz processor then). Vista, upon first installation, still took about 15 secs to start up (with a Core2Quad 2.4 GHz at the time of installing that, which is my present processor as well). Devil knows what speed it would give if I put stuff like Office, antivirus (I use NOD32) and other stuff virtual drive emulators, games etc. :P I believe the only reason my XP starts up slightly slower is coz of the tons of software installed on it. All the latest software must be compatible with Vista (well duh, since it's the latest and it's Windows, companies are obliged to make their new releases Vista compatible), some older software (mainly games) still won't even install on Vista, and some may not run even after installation. If you don't play games and don't care about some of the older software and have relatively high-end hardware, you can still live with Vista though. And from experience I've seen that NOD32 tends to give the best protection against viruses (but not neccessarily hack attempts, you'd best use a seperate firewall for that), of course freewares like AVG don't come close to it, like I've said many times, AVG can't detect even the most common viruses like the ones that infect flash drives. I didn't need to format OR service my PC (at least not the software) in the last 2-3 years and it's still running healthy and apparently virus-free :)

I saw the results, you guys are retarded. xp's security features, graphics and overall ease of use cannot compete with vista. the only reason people stick with mac or xp is because they are afraid of new operating systems, and they believe all the that other people spew about it. yeah it has bugs but thats what updates are for and every operating system has its share of bugs and they deal with so just suck it up and prepare for the new generation of OS.POINTS were deducted for this postPlease refer to the forum rules to find out why your points were deducted.

Vista is the equivalence of a new Millenium, full of bugs because it's a new platform and that they were too impatient to debug it correctly. Even more, it takes ALOT of RAM.But they are currently developing Windows 7. The best mix is Unbuntu for all the worjing and internet stuff and windows XP for games.

Updates are for bugs, but sometimes, bugs are intentionally injected so that they get the chance to release the updates. At least I've heard such rumors. (Well, otherwise, can't they just wait until most of the bugs are fixed and then release an almost bug free OS? ) Also, you can state your opinion without insulting others (@Dunkley).

Exactly. XD I swapped Ubuntu for Fedora though XD

I prefer XP over Vista, Linux, and Mac...Vista looks pretty and has cool stuff, but there are still a lot that needs improvement and I still have my legal copy of Vista Ultimate that I will put back on when those bugs get fixed...I like Linux too, but I am still learning a lot of it before I can put it over XP....as for Mac...I am not buying a new machine just to get their OS (though I like it a lot)

Well, duh. It's only natural that Microsoft would make their new games only compatible with Vista so that people are forced to get Vista to play them. o.O I'm aware of no non-MS PC game that's incompatible with XP.

There's nothing wrong with Vista, but I'm in no rush to update to it. I'll end up sticking with xp until windows 7 pops around, most likely.

XP for the win. Vista is too unstable and has too many incompatibility issues at this time.

Vista is really not as bad as people say and all these compatibility issues' talk that's been around since its launch are probably solved by now (at least the most important ones). Vista has many improvements over XP that I really enjoy.

Vista has its quirks but most of the dealbreakers are fixed by now. I switched fully a few weeks ago and am glad I did. Just get some connection errors now and again because of the way it handles half-open connections.

Which sometimes causes problems with eMule or torrents unless they're heavily seeded. Tried Ultimate SP1 yet again, for some reason it seems to freeze randomly, especially when I'm using browsers, or using Torrents and playing games at the same time, reinstalling drivers etc. O_O

Man according to me , Windows Xp is far better than Windows Vista as Vista is only good at looks and takes a lot of time to transfer data BUT Xp is meant for everything work and even looks!

If you have a reason to buy Vista [building a new computer, etc.], you might as well get Vista. However, Vista isn't "automatically better" than XP for several reasons, so take that as you will.Personally, I prefer Vista for the layout alone, as well as the small advantages it has.

There are a few small bits of Vista that I like, but overall I like XP much better. I have Vista Basic on my laptop and XP/SP2 on my PC, and the PC seldom gives me problems, whereas the laptop w/Vista is constantly locking up for a few seconds here and there, asks for permissions too often, even with UAC turned off, and other small things that bother me. I've gotten a little more used to it, but my opinion of Vista really hasn't changed much in the 2 months that I've used it.
