People please, if you haven't ever tried Vista, how can you know if it's good or not? Here's the rundown:Vista:Pros:-Pretty nice look-Extra protection from computer attacks by making you verify administrative actions

Except at times you don't know which administrative action is which ^^; Some maybe required, some are crap. Other than that, many viruses do work on Vista, it's not that much better than XP (or any other Windows OS) in terms of security. You'd need a good AV software anyway. Yup, it looks cool. But that's all really Vista has, a sleek look and feel, but I prefer usefulness over style. Vista SUCKS. And yeah, Linux, Solaris, Mac are better, but still they don't have compatibility for SO MANY games I have for XP T__T

I would have to say XP, because its the OS I've been using since I had my computer. Don't get me wrong though, I like Vista and it runs just as smooth as XP on my PC, but XP just "feels" right.

It only has look? Absolutely wrong, if you haven't ever used Vista I would find it easy to say, but if you have it has many more things then just "look" 64Bit is very useful for high performance PCs, if you want a lot more RAM and stuff.

I thought it was about the motherboard if I would need more RAM (my DG33FB supports upto 8 GB, irrespective of OS), I don't think it's got anything to do with OS. Besides, 64 bit Windows XP OSs also exist. Also, on low end processors (P4 solos), Vista is significantly slower than XP at times (although doesn't make a difference on my quad). And crappy backward compatibility remains the biggest issue anyway.

I personally use Windows XP Media Center (with AVG anti-virus..whoo!). I tried Vista on a brand new, high end computer and I eventually gave up due to frustration. It just isn't as compatible as XP not to mention it really doesn't look that great to me. I ran a corporate level virus scan on it (don't ask how I got it) and it was just full of em after a day of browsing. XP, so far, has had fairly little viruses and if I need to reinstall it (I do that every now and then) it is easy for me (I have an XP disc and know enough DOS to do it).In regards to MAC users I really don't like OS X at all. Not only is it not as user friendly (you have to admit it takes a while to find things at first) but the only games I have seen that are MAC compatible are a Carmen Sandiego game I have and WOW (eww...). I would only advise using MAC for taking up a profession in graphic arts. They do have all around better (if expensive) software for digital editing (this coming from a Photoshop user). Now I go to crack open the books and try to relearn Linux.

All 32 bit OSes have a memory limit of 4 gig in theory. In reality it is less. with 64 bit addressing the limit goes up to a bit over 16 exabytes aka over 16 million terabytes of RAM. You may boggle and laugh at those numbers now but some day that will be considered too limited.

Oh. I see... Thanks for clarifying. Well, in any case, like I said, 64-bit XP exists, too. This however means I will at least need to get a 64-bit XP soon >_<

Since I own both Vista and XP I think I can make a good judgement call on this. Vista's graphics are definately better, but that is the only component that is better. XP uses less RAM to run, it processes software faster, takes up a whole lot less space on a hard drive, pretty much all software is compatable with it, it does not have that annoying permission window that pops up everytime you try to load something, I think that is enough to go on to convince anyone that Vista sucks.

I wish I could change our XP into Vista but I heard that Vista has many bugs. So I'll have to wait a year or more to buy that one.

I think SP1 fixes a lot, but it might lower performance, that's why you should always close that damn sidebar.

I simply hate Vista, as much as i hated XP when i had 98. Unfortunatelly, we all will have to change to vista sooner or later, but i'll keep my XP for as many time as i can

I have Vista and XP, and Vista is just annoying, I hate nearly every aspect of it. At least XP Service Pack 2 doesn't give me too much trouble, wheras Vista doesn't leave me alone with all the security this and auto-update meaningless programs that. Stop XD

Hated XP when had 98? :P Hey, all new OSs need getting used to, once you get used to the newer OS, using it isn't that difficult... But Vista is simply way too complex and incompatible with many programs that do well on XP XD Also, no, we don't neccessarily have to switch to Vista, provided they do a REALLY good job with Windows Seven. Till then, you can use 64 bit XP (but I have been having issues getting some drivers for x64 :D )

Vista FTW, I think since there were a few bugs when Vista came out it's just been stereotyped, it's ridiculous, try it out before you hate it.

Already did, and decided I prefer backward compatibility and efficiency over looks and... well, giving away extra chunks of RAM for it to eat. And that window seeking permissions for admin actions is just too annoying... >_<

At least the backward compatibility issue hasn't been, trust me. :P XP is simpler and faster overall, honestly.

There isn't much difference between XP and Vista if you just use your computer for web browsing.
