I say that FFVIII was the worst of the bunch. It was all going pretty good with the characters, plot lines, card minigame, etc. Then there was the *SPOILER* "
Spoiler
Oh hey, We all grew up together and the matron was our foster mom!
" *SPOILER* event, and I havent played it since that. It ruined the story for me, that no one would remember that, and suddently, TADA! everyone does. FFIX wasnt nearly as bad at FFVIII

No, FF IX isn't the least popular. (At least from what I've seen)It appears to me, that FF VIII is the least popular. (Which is really disappointing because it is my personal favorite)

okay, so I played the FFs in kind of a weird order. From my perspective, I like FF7 and FF3. FF9 and FFX were just horrible. FF9 was soooo slow and the xp divisions sucked. The story was pretty good, and the cinematics were just nothing short of awesome, but the gameplay kind of left me feeling dry...FFX was sooo gimmicky and the whole thing w/ blitzball was simply stupid. The wardrobe was god-awful and I absolutely hated the weapon designs. The interface was one small redeeming point and the battle system was entertaining. The level-up abilities grid was the worst piece of programing ever concieved. And thats my take on the FFs. FFI, FFII, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, AND FFVIII were all good. Had to play the japanese versions though...I have yet to play FFXI online and FFXII yet though.P.S., FFX2 sucked butt too. The graphics were quite an improvement!

Final Fantasy 9 in my opinion is one of the best games in the series and is one of my personal favorites. Alot of people dont like it cause they were expecting another FF7 or FF8 at the time. I like it because there were so many callouts to the oldschool final fantasy games (the best if you ask me hehehe) but it probably wont get the respect it deserves since it's stuck between final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 10, two games that practically built the final fantasy fanbase. ps ( the only thing didn't make sense to me in ff 9 was the final boss after trance kuja.........where the heck does he come into the story?) I loved 9! But I think it got the lest amount of recognition among the FF PS1 titles. Yes it did get a greatest hits version, but you rarely hear 9 come up in many FF conversations as opposed to its predecessors.

Oh god, don't get me started on Revenant Wings. That game was TERRIBLE.FF 9 is definitely not the worst in the series. I still play through it once a week.

Well I didn't like it because of the character design, but after reading that it has the best storyline, I decided to give it a try, hurray for psp. And seriously... I concur that Revenant Wings was a let down... graphic wise... stupid SE...

Out of the PS1 era of FF games, FF9 is EASILY my favorite. In fact it's my second favorite FF games behind FFVI. I really didn't like FF7 and FF8 was good but not great but I LOVED the old school concept of FF9. The kind-of cutesy graphics worked for me, Zidane wasn't a whiny, brooding, depressing hero like Cloud and Squall and the game had a sense of humor. Not to mention I loved the idea of getting abilities from weapons since it encourages you to actually try to get every weapon and armor since you never know what ability you could get. Also, I like having characters that are stuck in certain classes...having characters where each one can be made the same kind of takes away from the variety of using them all. The only shortcoming is Kuja who is pretty lame as a villain but the rest of the game more than makes up for it. I'm definitely all about FF9 but I know I'm in the minority here...Stevo

Which, of course, is VERY untrue. Aside from the more cutesy graphics it's no more "for kids" than FF7 and FF8. Just because FF7 and FF8 have boring, brooding main characters who are depressed all the time doesn't make them more "adult." If anything I found that characters like Cloud, Squall and Sephiroth are more geared toward kids since young kids always love dark, goth-like characters who wear black, carry huge swords and are depressed all the time while more adult gamers see those characters as cliches and would rather see something different. At least that's how I feel about it. A game like FF9 that can be serious yet also be funny and playful at the same time appealed to me more. I want to be entertained...not hear my video game characters whine about their horrible lives all the time.Stevo

I like FF9 a lot, too. The thing is FF7 is somewhat over-hyped(not that it's not good, ti's just that people talk about it way too much) and FF8 was... well, I don't know. I actually liked it and its junction system, but it seems nobody else did.
