I've always been partial to mutts, personally. I don't really see what the huge advantage to pure breeds is.

A pitbull ;D As long as it's not dangerous. I have one myself, that came in my yard, pretty much just skin and bones :l But, I fed it and now she's healthy and so loving ;D

I would have to go for maltese shih-tzu mainly because that's the breed my dog is, so I guess that makes me slightly biased. They are small and fluffy and adorable so they are the dog for me :gs: I'm not a big fan of big dogs they kind of scare me.

The very best breed of dog is Alaskan Malamute. They look somewhat like Greenland dogs, but much more like a wolf and their temperament is the best, calm and playful, devoted to their owner and anyone who's willing to rub their tummy... They do not make very good protect dogs^^

I am curious as to how someone decides what breed is best? Different breeds are useful and were created for different reasons. I wouldn't want to take a a husky to the middle of the Sahara but they still possess many traits which make them ideal for other environments.

This question can only be answered with a subjective answer. Every dog owner wants something else in their dogs. Some people want a dog that fits in their purse, other people want a dog that looks dangerous.I only had a Jack Russell terrier, and a British Beagle before, so I can't really judge. But from what I've heard and seen, Labradors are really good. They listen well, look nice, and are energetic.

What about a golden retriever though? They look very nice, are easy to train, have a lot of energy, and are protective of their owners.

Like I said before, everyone has their own favorites. You can't really compare them. For example, Beagles hardly listen. But they're cute (kawaiiii~ o.O), loyal, and have a great sense of smell. For airport security they're really good, because of their sense of smell, and they don't alarm people the way German Sheppard do.Every dog has their good and bad points.

I think any dog can be a good dog, but I have a thing for Akitas since my first dog was half Akita and he inherited the whole, "I don't like to bark unless I have to" thing which Akitas are known for. I love all dogs though, although I won't lie...Dobermen pinchers SCARE me!!!

I grew up always wanting a Golden Retriever, and finally got one not too long ago. But the house is too small to keep her inside, so we had to put her outside. Then we eventually gave her away because we just weren't giving her much attention. I think if we ever get another dog in the future, it's going to have to be a smaller breed that can stay indoors, and hopefully a breed that doesn't shed much.
