Without a doubt, music is extremely important. Often, the right music played at the right time can suck you into the game and make it more exciting or more empathetic to what is happening. Although . . . I tend to turn the music low or off when I am playing a racing game because it distracts me a bit.

I kind of have a penchant for soundtracks of all kinds, and games are no exception!A well-scored game is a thing of beauty and a joy of awesomeness. But some kinds of games really shine with their sounds, whereas others are sadly lacking. (That was kind of a "duh" statement, but bear with me. :weep: ) The music for the Final Fantasy series is among the finest gaming music out there (piano collections and everything), but the music for the original SimTown definitely leaves something to be desired. The Smash Bros players among us can appreciate some of the cool choices on certain levels - the symphonic version of Kirby's theme is actually a lovely piece, and smashing is all the more fun to the sounds of the F-Zero or Pokemon theme. Even something dark and dreary like the score to American McGee's Alice shows a level of skill and sophistication that one can enjoy both during and after play.Of course, you've got some games where sound just ain't so important ... Tetris, for example. In these cases, the game doesn't suffer from lack of music ... it just benefits from the minimalist style. XD

Agreed. Music is what makes the game epic, it's what makes you excited when playing. And some game have some REALLY oustanding OSTs. The Dragon Ball Z Budokai (NOT Budokai Tenkaichi) had a mix of rock/jazz, and it just worked so well with the fights. It's pretty amazing how music can get you in the zone of some games./GX

Absolutely it is. I honestly don't see why more developers aren't going after licensed music in their games.

Sure it is! I mean what would some games be without music? Classic Zelda music or even the old pokemon music is remarkable and listenable to every time, so of course it's important.

Game music should be a necessity. No point in a game without the right kind of music. Kudos to the legendary Nobuo Uematsu!

Yeah i completely agree with you. The music in games like sets the mood and atmosphere for games without it games would probably be a lot less exciting and i definitely know that without the music in like Resident Evil games there would be like no suspense in them or would they make you jump any if there wasn't any music there. So yeah i think that music in games is extremely critical.

You Need Music in a game! Wait make that good music! Not music like in Somari that keeps on repeating every minute.

Music portrays the mood of the game! A game needs music! Music is a critical reason why a series like Final Fantasy are successful.BTW, here's some video game music:Fountain of Dreams from SSBMFire Emblem ThemePokemon ThemeAnd perhaps my most favorite video game music:One Winged Angel (Vs. Final Boss Sephiroth) from FFVII

Sometimes its important, and sometimes I can care less about it...the only music that touched me so much was Aeris' Theme when Sephiroth stabbed her...bad Sephiroth!

Music is crucial in a game! Not only to rpg's, but to musical games too! How much fun is Guitar Hero if there was no music? It'd just be... no notes or songs, just long loading screens and random clicking buttons!
